***MEET THE LOCALS*** This friendly fella is one of the locals in Stari Grad at the agro-farm Hora which lies on the Stari Grad Plain - a UNESCO heritage protected site as of 2008. More than 2,400 years ago the ancient Greeks sailed into what is now known as Stari Grad on island Hvar, settled and cultivated the nearby fertile land - Stari Grad Plain. It has been generously providing produce, olive oil and wine ever since. Hora is an agro-farm that guests can visit, to enjoy traditional food in a warm, family atmosphere. ***SPANISH FORTRESS, HVAR*** Hvar is so much more than a 'party destination', it is rich with history. Take this view, it's not just for looks - in 1282 Hvar was under the protection of the Venetians who ordered the town be fortified. This fortress was finished in 1551 and 20 years later, it protected the citizens by an attack from the Ottoman Empire. Though it couldn't be protected from mother nature, and in 1579 it was struck by lightning which seriously damaged the fortress. With no impending threat today, it is simply an amazing view over Hvar town and the Pakleni. To know a destination is to understand its story.
