Essex Terminal Railway / Morterm
Description
Essex Terminal Railway and Morterm are a key player in the intermodal, international freight transportation newtork. Morterm, a privately owned facility located in the Port of Windsor, has 160,000 square feet of indoor storage and over 90 acres of well compacted, outdoor, fenced and gated storage yards with 24 hour security.
The strategic location of our facility, at the busiest border crossing between the US and Canada and in excellent proximity to the new billion dollar Parkway project leading to the planned new international crossing, provides easy access to highways, rail and vessels. Morterm offers on-site craneage up to 400 tonnes using a Manitowoc 2250 crane as well as up to 65,000 lb capacity high mast lift truck with a top handling device.
Additionally, for marine traffic of shipments by vessel Morterm offers a full seaway draft, and the Port of Windsor cargo fee is among the lowest in the Great Lakes. There are no wharfage, MEA or harbour dues as would be paid to other competing ports.
Our sister company, Essex Terminal Railway (ETR) is a short-line (or switching) railway strategically located at the Windsor-Detroit gateway providing service from the east side of Windsor to Amherstburg, ON and offering direct connections with CN, CP and CSX with reach all across North America. The rail line serves Morterm with 3,500 feet of track, as well as many other properties in the Windsor-Essex region. Morterm can spot 12 – 15 railcars per day, with the flexibility to request additional switches as necessary, and access to ample car storage yards close to the terminal alleviating any concerns about space.
Finally, the Detroit Windsor Truck Ferry is located next door to our facility, and accessible without entering public roadway. The ferry crosses the Detroit River in 20 minutes between Windsor and Detroit on a scheduled basis. The Detroit Windsor Truck Ferry completes all customs clearances on site reducing custom delays, and avoiding congestion delays at road border crossings (such as the Ambassador Bridge). The ferry is experienced in handling specialized carriers and offers drive-on/drive-off service for most tractor-trailers (www.truckferry.com).
