Follow us on Twitter @PacificRimNPR Backed by the Vancouver Island Range and facing the open Pacific Ocean, Pacific Rim presents the rich natural and cultural heritage of Canada's west coast. Its cool and wet maritime climate produces an abundance of life in the water and on land. Lush coastal temperate rainforest gives way to bountiful and diverse intertidal and subtidal areas. These natural wonders are interwoven with the long and dynamic history of the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations and European explorers and settlers.

#WildlifeWednesday Harbour seals are found throughout nearshore waters in British Columbia and is one of the most common marine mammal species you may see in Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Although you usually see harbour seals hauled out on remote rocky islets they may occasionally haul out on beaches to moult or in the spring, moms will leave their pups on beaches to rest while she goes out hunting. If you see seals or other marine mammals on beaches in the park reserve please keep your distance for the safety of the animal and yourself, and report your sighting to Parks Canada by calling 1-877-852-3100.

The route of the new multi-use being built in the park reserve is now 90% finalized. We will continue to make small changes to the route as trail building progresses. By being flexible, we can mitigate impacts on the environment, cultural resources, and visitor safety. #buildingthetrail http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/bc/pacificrim/visit/visit5/visit8.aspx

Large holes – test pits – will be dug in the Kwisitis Visitor Centre parking lot in April, but we promise it’s not the Easter Bunny. An Archaeological Impact Assessment is underway in preparation for upgrades to Wick Road. Material from the test pits will provide archaeologists with information on the history of the region. This information will also help the park reserve to make decisions as the project moves forward. The Kwisitis Visitor Centre is open during the work, and visitors are asked to exercise caution in the parking lot due to uneven and rough surfaces. http://ow.ly/Lf5h30aG7xw
