Cafe and lounge. On The Front Cafe is a coffee shop and eatery located in the heart of downtown Thorold between the new and old canals, on Front Street South.
THE BUILDING
There are a several unique features about the building. First; the original tin ceiling was removed, sanded, repainted and re-installed (dents and all).
Second; after the fire that was started on April 29, 1866 most of the downtown burnt down, including the current location of the café. We have exposed a small section of the stone wall that was in the fire and you can see the minerals in the stone due to being exposed to the heat.
Lastly, during renovations on the outside walls we discovered a stone wall under the stucco. This stone wall exists on the exterior wall of the cafe, facing bridal alley.
THE FOOD
On The Front Café teamed up with the culinary team of Ravine Vineyard to create five gourmet sandwiches to serve in our café. Housemade breads, pastries and dressing make On the Front's experience unique. Our goal is to have top quality products for our customers to enjoy; from fair trade, organic coffee beans to housemade breads.
