The first annual Québec Undergraduate Security Conference, funded by the Fonds de Recherche du Québec - Société et Culture (FRQSC), and organized by Dr. Sarah-Myriam Martin-Brûlé, Professor in the Department of Politics and International Studies and Deputy Director of the Reseau de recherche sur les operations de la paix, in collaboration with Junru Bian, assisted by Anthony Martin and the International Security in the Globalization Era (ISGE) research team, took place in the Centre for International Peace and Security Studies (CIPSS) on Saturday, February 24th. More than 25 students from McGill University Université de Montréal, Université de Sherbrooke and #Ubishops attended the conference, which composed with elaborate seminar panels chaired by accomplished International Security Scholars from Université de Montréal and McGill University, including: Dr. Vincent Pouliot (William Dawson Scholar and Professor at McGill University, Director of Centre d'études sur la paix et la sécurité internationale (CEPSI)) Dr. Frédéric Merand (Professor at Université de Montréal, Director of CÉRIUM) Mr. Jean-François Bélanger (Doctoral Candidate at McGill University) Dr. Marie-Joëlle Zahar (Full Professor at Université de Montréal, Director of the Réseau de recherche sur les opérations de paix (ROP)) Impressive discussions were conducted by Caroline Dufour, David Marrack, Toshrina Ameikha Ramsagur, all from Bishop's University Department of Politics and International Studies, regarding the key issues on the transformation of international security institutions. #Ubishops student Chadia Kikondjo impressed the judges during her blind audition at La Voix! 🚂🚂🚂

Until March 2, #Ubishops will be represented by 4 WSB students at NIBS Worldwide Case Competition in Guatemala. Gathering 16 schools from 11 different countries, the event will give the opportunity for students to tackle real-world business challenges and display their ability to present their ideas to judges. #Ubishops very own Dr. Sarah-Myriam Martin-Brûlé, (Bishop's University Department of Politics and International Studies), was invited by the prestigious International Peace Institute (IPI) to submit a review of the Cruz Report, on the security of United Nations peacekeepers. She is one of a handful of researchers around the world invited by the IPI to think critically about this important document and underscore its strengths and weaknesses. Our Gaiter hearts are filled with joy and pride as #UbishopsAlumni and former Gaiter Nick Poloniato finished 7th overall in the 2-man bobsleigh race in PyeongChang. A great performance for his first Olympics!

Queensland University of Technology in Australia student Zoe Garner spent Fall 2016 at #Ubishops for her exchange program. Her experience as a Gaiter turned out to be one of the highlights of her entire educational experience. "When I arrived at Bishop’s, it was my first time in Canada, first time living away from home and I knew no one. Yet, from day one, I had never felt more welcome or part of a community. I will forever cherish the friendships I made at Bishop’s and the experiences the University allowed me to have. My time at Bishop’s had such an impact on me that on return to my home university, I became a Global Ambassador for QUT. I have since been able to use this role to share my exchange story and tell other students about BU. My experience at Bishop’s has encouraged me to continue to seek out exciting life experiences. For example, I am currently living in Orlando working for Walt Disney World in their International Program. So thank you. I could not have picked a better school or place to call my second home. I look forward to being able to come back and visit, hopefully in the near future. It’s true what they say, once a Gaiter, always a Gaiter!"
