Description
Owned and operated by the City of Sault Ste Marie, the Essar Centre opened its doors in 2006. As Northern Ontario’s premier Sports and Entertainment Facility, the Essar Centre provides a topnotch home to the Soo Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League, and serves as a multi-sporting complex, venue for entertainment, tradeshows, conferences and much more.
The Essar Centre spreads over one full block in Sault Ste. Marie’s downtown district, and is close to shopping centres, hotels, restaurants and entertainment. Our facility is fully accessible, equipped with elevators and ramps.
Since opening, the Essar Centre has hosted major concerts and special events including Elton John, Cirque du Soleil, KISS, the 2010 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Brad Paisley, Bryan Adams, Neil Young, the 2012 CARHA World Hockey Championships, Jerry Seinfeld, Motley Crue, and Mamma Mia; just to name a few! The Essar Centre is flexible in seating capacity, and can host events which require seating from 1,000 to 6,100. Inside, the Essar Centre is equipped with an in-venue full-service kitchen and restaurant, executive suites, special event and meeting room rental space and five private dressings rooms.

"More than 1,000 delegates from around the globe are descending on Sault Ste. Marie Ontario next year. The community has been selected to host the 2019 World Martial Arts Championship - Canadian Open. Taking place July 25 to 28 at the Essar Centre" This tournament will feature participants from South Korea, Iran, France, Chile, India, Brazil, Bahrain, the United States and Canada. Russell's back with THE DEPORTED WORLD TOUR featuring ALL NEW MATERIAL. After taking time off since filming Almost Famous for Netflix, Russell has produced and starred in his own comedy-drama limited series for Netflix, The Indian Detective. The Indian Detective also stars Anupam Kher (The Big Sick, Silver Linings Playbook), William Shatner (Star Trek), Christina Cole (Suits, Casino Royale), Mishqah Parthiephal (Keeping Up with the Kandasamys). The Indian Detective will air in December on Netflix globally. Russell has also appeared in the still unreleased films, The Clapper with Ed Helms, Amanda Seyfried and Tracy Morgan as well as Supercon with Ryan Kwanten and John Malkovich, and Public Schooled with Judy Greer. Saturday, February 24, 2018,The Mayor's Youth Advisory Council is once again hosting the Annual Youth Art Gala at the Civic Centre. If you are interested in joining, admission is $10/person at the door, and will include a ticket for a mocktail, and a chance to sample some hors d'oeuvres from the secondary school Special Skills Major program. Proceeds from this event go to Children's ARCH Time: 7-11 p.m. Music begins at 7:15 on the main level.
