Has your Furnace been Damaged during Construction? Using your forced air furnace during construction/renovation to heat your home may not be the best idea… The main problem is drywall dust; which is essentially powdered rock. Debris gets tossed down the supply and return ducts, and makes a mess. This dust eventually gets pulled through your furnace, which covers all of your heat exchangers, blower, motor, and electronics. This can damage the furnace, and greatly reduce the ability to transfer heat, thus minimizing the reason for having a high efficiency furnace in the first place. It will also cause the secondary heat exchanger to have restricted air flow through the fins. Often the filters are not replaced or even installed during construction, leaving the furnace coated on the inside with dust and. This is why we suggest that it be imperative that you have your furnace and ducts cleaned after any new home construction or renovation. We have found that within 6-12 months after construction is completed; that the drywall dust begins to become solid rock (and no longer dust) making it very difficult to remove. Any humidity in the air will cause the drywall dust to solidify over time. Permanent damage can occur to your secondary heat exchanger in your new high-efficient furnace if the dust is not removed. Examples of before and after cleaning are attached to this article.

Signs Your Air Ducts Need Cleaning Keep your ducts in a row!!! Have you noticed little wisps of dust puffing out from an air duct every time you turn on your home's heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system? Have you seen dust or pet hair trapped in a vent? Is there dust coating the grill on the return air registers? These might be indications that your home's duct work might be due for a through cleaning. Inside your HVAC system, fine dust collects on air duct surfaces, vents, motors, and coils. Flakes of dead skin, hair, and pet dander catch onto the dust, and before too long this process creates a dense, mat-like environment where bacteria, mould, dust mites, and allergens can flourish. Air filters remove most of these from the air stream, but not for all parts of the HVAC system. That's why it's important to periodically check the condition of your air ducts to see if they could use air duct cleaning services. Give us a call 780-645-5445
