MIssion of my social work practice:

I am registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and the Ontario Social Work Association-Eastern Branch. I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) at Carleton University.

My social work practice offers various forms of expression therapies. I use the structural approach to social work that takes a multi-directional look at clients. Structural social work takes the perspective that personal issues of the client are not just reflective of the individual but rather a reflection of family, friends and society as a whole. Structural social workers also begin every client session with the belief that everyone wants to be happy, well, and a good person and that there is an innate self-motivation that can be reawakened with appropriate guidance.
I use active-listening skills to do assessments of the individuals and all aspects of their lives, determine goal oriented therapies with client consultation and therapy plans that the client agrees to. Contracts are often used to assist clients in committing to therapy goals. Contracts are fluid and negotiable by the client at all times. When resources are available, I assist clients with accessing additional community supports and will refer them to more specialized professionals when psychiatric/medical interventions are required. I record session highlights under the regulations of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

I practice person-centred, strengths-based cognitive behavioural, exposure and expression therapies. I have worked with clients who live with chronic pain and debilitating disease/injuries; end of life issues; addictions; loneliness and depression; PTSD; and with families of those with long-term disabilities and clients with disabilities themselves. The largest population of clients I have worked with consists of university students between the ages of 17-25. One area of my practice that has grown is working with medical professionals/students who are experiencing caregiver burnout.

I believe that patients should feel in control of their mental health care thus I offer the opportunity for them to choose where they would like to meet for their appointments. I do not have an office. This empowers clients to be proactive about where and how they receive social work guidance. I am trained to avoid risk and was certified for UMAB, Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour, while working in the foster care system. I am also trained in Emergency First Aid and CPR. I enter situations at my own discretion based on risk assessment prior to arriving and once on site. I express to the client via contract that I have the right to withdraw myself from any session if I feel that I am in danger and that they will be billed for session since it is the responsibility of the client to ensure a safe environment for my visit.

I can be contacted via pacelifesolutions@gmail.com. I also provide online and telephone counseling.
