The Mount Community Centre
Description
The Mount Community Centre nurtures a community space to improve lives of the community through redevelopment of the historic Mount St. Joseph property. The Mount Community Centre will offer a mix of housing and community uses to a property that is a historic and architectural gem in the City of Peterborough. This 10 acres in the middle of the City of Peterborough is set on a major arterial road. Its 131,400 square feet of buildings includes:
• apartments of various sizes and rent ranges
• a beautiful chapel that will double as a performing arts space
• a large-scale kitchen
• limited office space
The Mount Community Centre has adopted this vision for the Food Hub:
• working with those who see the possibilities of this building and 10-acre site for improving the lives of all who come
• cultivating identified portions of the land and several flat roof tops for accessible community gardens
• rehabilitating the orchard, flower and herb gardens
• refurbishing the commercial kitchen, adjacent area and dining room as community assets to be available for residential and non residential tenants and the surrounding neighbourhood
• using this area for vocational/educational purposes, social enterprises, and a neighbourly gathering space focusing on gardening, nutritious food and food preparation
Future uses will include:
• community gardens
• meeting places -- indoor and outdoor
• new standalone buildings for additional housing
• rentals of other facilities within the large complex
The Mount Community Centre aims not just to become a landlord, but to build a community where a mix of uses enriches the lives of the people who come to live or just to visit. We are open to new partnerships that will enrich the site. If you see yourself at The Mount, contact us at themountpeterborough@gmail.com
