Did you know that even Ground Hog Day has German Origins?!? As part of the Christian celebration of Candlemas - the blessing of candles in the dark winter - the Germans added the predicting of Spring using a hedgehog. German settlers in Pennsylvania brought the tradition with them, but Americanized it to include the ground hog. http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/first-groundhog-day
