Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata) - Ontario Wildflowers

Found all over this region, possibly even in your own backyard . This invasive plant called Garlic Mustard was originally brought over from Europe as a food plant. Edible both raw and cooked, with a mild onion flavour. Try it in a salad, sautéed like spinach, or even made into a pesto. To learn more visit http://ontariowildflowers.com/main/species.php?id=163

I've had a few people ask me what the name Nith River Market means. I decided to look up the history as I grew up only knowing it as the other river in Paris. The River was named after the River Nith in Scotland. It's interesting to learn how many of the small towns along the banks of both rivers share names. The word Nith itself is based of the name Nuath, who was the son of a Cumbrian prince.
