Did you like the movie Hotel Rwanda? The Promise,” co-written and directed by Terry George (director of Hotel Rwanda) is a sweeping historical romance starring Oscar Isaac and Christian Bale. It is the kind of movie epic they just don’t make anymore. It’s a throwback to David Lean’s “Doctor Zhivago” and Warren Beatty’s “Reds,” movies that transposed big, emotional stories against a sprawling canvas, and tugged at the heartstrings while dealing with thorny political periods. Tonight is the last night to watch The Promise. Movie begins at 7:30pm.

The Promise Official Trailer 1 (2016) - Christian Bale Movie

Playing June 5-7 The Promise. Cinemaclock Saskatoon review: "The Promise is a first-rate dramatization of the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire (present-day Turkey) during World War I. It's a heart-rending story filled with outstanding performances that convey the anguish and suffering of a people, and in particular one village that is helped by the son of a modest family who at war's outbreak is studying medicine in Constantinople. I loved all the main stars' performances -- Oscar Isaac and Charlotte Le Bon have real chemistry while Christian Bale as the American reporter adds his own dimension to events. James Cromwell's cameo as the US ambassador is superb. The movie has been critiqued for sacrificing plot development for historical accuracy but the wonder is that so much is packed in 2-1/4 hours yet is beautifully paced throughout." 9 /10 cinnamonsticker@ . Rating 14A Guide for parents: Rated PG-13 in the USA, disturbing, not recommended for young children, violence, sexuality. Doors open at 7:00pm, movie begins at 7:30 pm.

Gifted Official Trailer 1 (2017) - Chris Evans Movie

Playing May 29 - June 3 Gifted. Cinemaclock review: "Very good realistically-scripted story of a custody battle over a child prodigy. Gifted child actress Mckenna Grace is superb as the gifted first grade math wizard who struggles with reconciling her need to feed her giant intellect and her need to have a normal childhood. Captain America star Chris Evans is also excellent as her caring, guilt-stricken uncle who gives up his independence to raise her after she is orphaned. This is an engaging and enjoyable drama and well worth the price of admission." 8/10 rojan61@ Rated PG in Saskatchewan. Guide for parents: Rated PG-13 in the USA, not recommended for young children, offensive language, sexuality.

Playing May 22, 23 and 24 - Colossal. Cinemaclock Saskatooon reviewer: "This was a quite fun and smart film, but a bit darker than I had expected. That last point is something that they failed to represent in the previews which makes me concerned that people will go to see this with the expectation that it is a light-hearted comedy. 9 / 10 under.the.mountain@ age: 36-49 Ratings: PG in Saskatchewan. It will stir your emotions, on so many levels. From finding yourself smiling, to being horrified. To everything in between. I love how it dealt with the different relationship among different characters wile it weaves the WWII as part of all the relationships, at the same time. The animals are just heartwarming and heart jerking. These kind of historical war stories, needs to told more over via movies. GREAT movie, go see it! 8/10 curlysunflowers@ 2.5.2017 age: 36-49 Door opens at 7pm movie begins at 7:30 pm. Rated 14A with disturbing images not recommended for small children.

The Fate of the Furious Trailer #2 (2017) | Movieclips Trailers

Playing May 1-6 Fate of the Furious. Cinemaclock reviewer - "So good, tons of action, cool cars, and very funny, even the plot was pretty interesting, the best one in the entire series by so far, it was a tough road after Paul Walker's death but every character brought their A game, the characters are so well defined by this time that they don't really need a ton of filler anymore so they can just jump straight into it. If you are in any way a fan of this series, definitely see it, you won't be disappointed." 10 madison@ 21.4.2017
