We are excited to announce that Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets have joined the Main Stage lineup. Nick Lowe is a revered figure in rock and pop music. Los Straitjackets are an astonishingly talented instrumental rock surf band. It's a fantastic combination that will leave you raving. Make your Mariposa plans and get your tickets today! https://goo.gl/GGaqTn PLEASE SHARE Nick Lowe has made his mark as a producer (Elvis Costello-Graham Parker-Pretenders-The Damned), songwriter of at least three songs you know by heart, short-lived career as a pop star, and a lengthy term as a musicians’ musician. But in his current ‘second act’ as a silver-haired, tender-hearted but sharp-tongued singer-songwriter, he has no equal. Starting with 1995′s ‘The Impossible Bird’ through to 2011′s ‘The Old Magic,’ Nick has turned out a fantastic string of albums, each one devised in his West London home, and recorded with a core of musicians who possess the same veteran savvy. Lowe brings wit and understated excellence to every performance, leading Ben Ratliff of the New York Times to describe his live show as “elegant and nearly devastating.” Los Straitjackets are the leading practitioners of the lost art of the guitar instrumental. Using the music of the Ventures, The Shadows, and with Link Wray and Dick Dale as a jumping off point, the band has taken their unique, high energy brand of original rock & roll around the world. Clad in their trademark Lucha Libre Mexican wrestling masks, the “Jackets” have delivered their trademark guitar licks to 16 albums, thousands of concerts and dozens of films and TV shows. #MusicFestival #AlternativeRock #AlternativePop #SummerEntertainment #FolkFestival
The gloominess of a winter’s night was lit up when Lance Anderson and an all-star lineup of musicians and vocalists hit the stage last night at the St. Paul's Centre. A capacity crowd was delighted by a wide range of blues and gospel by fabulous musicians and vocalists. Featured were vocalists Michael Dunston and Quisha Wint, along with award-winning blues guitarist, Spencer Mackenzie, and drummer Ben Riley.
Join us for a reprise performance by popular favorite, Reuben And The Dark. This spirited folk-rock group with a loyal and growing following turned heads last summer at Mariposa Folk Festival, and we are pleased to bring them back for what promised to be a fantastic concert.
Soon we will announce a Main Stage artist that we are very excited about. This photo of the legendary actress, Joan Crawford, in character as Lucy Harbin, is half of the clue. The other half is as follows: kind = cruel Can you guess who it is? PLEASE SHARE
#FlashBackFriday This is a recording of a radio broadcast of the opening ceremonies of the first Mariposa Folk Festival on August 18, 1961. It begins with an introduction by master of ceremonies Pete McGarvey of the mayor of Orillia, George McLean who is escorted to the stage by a Scottish piper. McLean speaks about the history of the Orillia and then invites Ruth Jones and Dr. Casey Jones to the stage to cut the ceremonial ribbon to open the festival. The Scottish piper concludes the ribbon cutting with another tune. The recording ends with a sign off by reporter Jack Allen. #FBF #MariposaFolkFestival #Orillia
