Napanee Golf & Country Club
Description
Mature trees, generous, sculpted fairways, and fast, well-maintained greens provide an exceptional golf experience for players of all abilities. Napanee Golf and Country Club… there is always time for nine, but stay for eighteen. You will be glad that you did. (Public welcome, memberships available)
Founded at the turn of the 19th century, Napanee Golf and Country Club offers golfers of all abilities, a golf experience that has withstood the test of time. Set on hilly terrain and highlighted by towering pine, maple and oak trees, our well-maintained greens run fast and true.
Although we are classified as a nine-hole course, our dual tees, and split fairway, (hole 5 and 14), offer an exceptional 18-hole experience. Our lush fairways appear to be generous, but choose your landing zones carefully or you will find yourself negotiating mature trees and uphill, downhill, or side-hill lies.
Our signature holes: two and nine will stick in your memory.
The second hole is a long par-3 that plays across a sharply cut valley onto a multi-tiered green that slopes right to left. Many golfers, out of respect for this hole, refer to it as the ‘world’s shortest par-5!’ Make sure that you are staying to play 18 holes, because you will want a second chance at this hole! Be aware that the level of challenge increases because, when you see this hole on the back nine, the elevated tee is set back considerably.
The ninth hole, an uphill par 4, will also earn your respect and enthusiasm. Hit your landing target and you are faced with a blind approach to a green that slopes from back to front. Miss your landing zone off of the tee and you may find yourself obstructed by a mature tree or negotiating a tough side-hill or down hill lie. Be careful to keep your approach to the green shot the pin, or you will be reading a putt that will want to run a way from you and not want to stop. Golf is not a game that offers second chances, but on this hole, like number two, you will want a second chance! When you get around the course a second time, and you arrive at the eighteenth hole, mature trees, left and right present a narrow chute to navigate your tee shot through. The set-back tee adds distance to this hole, so you will need to choose your club carefully for the uphill, blind approach shot that you are facing. But be careful, by now you will also know how difficult that green that lies ahead is.
