. Basil Box drew its inspiration from travels abroad and venturing down the bustling streets of Southeast Asia. Brimming with life and flurries of people going to and fro, we found refuge in the form of aromatic smells wafting from vendors peddling carts of fresh, flavourful ingredients. We wanted to bring these vibrant colours, tastes, spices, and aromas abroad. Our name Basil Box: Basil - a prominent ingredients in Southeast Asian cuisine. Box - replicates the convenience of eating your meal in a portable and eco-friendly bagasse (sugarcane fibre) box.

Five-spice steak on chilled rice noodles ($8.95) - Square One shoppers have been eating at Basil Box for over half a year now, but here's the rundown for those who don't know: you choose your base (salad, noodles, rice), pick your veggies, select a protein, decide on a sauce (or two!), then top your box with condiments. Each visit I like to get a different mix of stuff, but it always ends up looking like the deliciously colourful mess pictured above. I'm eagerly awaiting their full restaurant opening at Ryerson this month!
