Renew Dance is a recreational (non competitive) studio where we dance simply because we love it! At Renew Dance beginners are welcome at any age. We do not require costumes or have a large recital. Our incredibly talented teachers love to teach dance while also allowing children to be creative and have fun! We provide short semesters and have affordable prices with no extra fees. In fall 2016 we began adding a theme each week, which has become a huge hit and an important part of our studio. These themes are things like: be kind, lead, have courage, choose joy, and be humble. Not only do we want to teach your children how to dance, but how to be dancers with GREAT character. This benefits everyone including the students themselves inside and outside of the studio, parents, teachers, and other students.

THEME OF THE WEEK: BE STRONG What does it mean to BE STRONG? When we think of somebody being strong, most of us automatically think of big muscles and high endurance. In reality, being strong means much more than that! PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY, EMOTIONALLY these are the three ways you can show strength. If you are powerful in one or more of these, you are stronger than you think! How can we BE STRONG when we come to dance class? -Exercise/dancing (physically) - Memorize the the choreography your instructor teaches you each week (mentally) - Practice self control when you’re upset, be positive (emotionally) -Don’t be afraid to ask questions or for help (emotionally) Why is it important that we practice being strong in our dance classes? How awesome is it that we can show how strong we are in a number of different ways! A dance class full of strong hearted students is beneficial because we create an environment where students feel like they can conquer whatever they desire. This realization leads to students striving to better themselves by either practicing at home, being aware of how they treat others, how to react to different situations, or simply by asking their teacher questions. “A true hero isn’t measured by the size of his strength, but by the strength of his heart” -Hercules Not only do we want our students to use these qualities inside dance class, we want to see these qualities shine inside them when they leave. So parents, please chat with your children about strength this week. Remind them of the helpful tips and tricks they can use to be strong!

This week our dancers explored aspects of acceptance: being accepting of others as well as of themselves. In our 7-9 ballet class, we focused especially on the latter. There is something beautiful about being able to say “I am different than others and I appreciate that about myself”. This is especially true in the arts, because no two people can move, paint, create, etc. in exactly the same way! It is a gift to be able to learn from classmates, and see beauty in the way each of our bodies perform. May we always be able to celebrate our uniqueness! -Miss Danielle #ballet #youbeyou #dancerenew #acceptance #loveyourself #loveothers

A message from the owner of Renew Dance: Community and a love for dance. That’s always been the heart of Renew. Around this time every year I find the topic of discussion among dance parents is why they are leaving one studio to go to another. And although we gladly accept new students with open arms, I ask that we as parents, lead by example by not slamming other dance studios. At Renew dance we work HARD at creating a positive atmosphere. Teaching our students the importance of bringing one another up- not tearing them down. I understand things happen, thing you don’t agree with, things that are hurtful and unfair. And I understand sometimes you just need a fresh start, and I would encourage you to do so!!! But please, for the sake of our children, let’s do so with tact and dignity. Saying only the things we need to say and leaving the rest in the past. Medicine Hat is unfortunately known for its cut throat dance culture- I know that’s heavy but I’m just being real! Let’s change that vibe dance parents! I personally try to go to as many year end shows as I can. Not only because I love dance shows! But because I want to change the mindset that all studios must not like and support one another. Medicine Hat School of Performing Arts - I LOVE your shows. Your creativity, and LOVE for dance. Hit the Floor Studio of Dance- I love that you make ballet fun and intriguing by the style of music you choose. Medicine Hat College Conservatory of Music and Dance- some of my most beautiful, talented, good hearted teachers came from you. Thank you. LimeLitez Dance Academy- your growing like crazy!! Good for you!! Hanson School of Dance- your senior students leave your program with an entire dance family that are so very loyal to you. It’s beautiful. Gx Dance Studio- your passion, and positive influence, and incredible ability to dance is so inspiring. Infinity Dance Inc.- I’m so proud of you. The following you already have because of your incredible reputation is unreal. Good luck with your first year!!! I know it’ll be amazing. 💚 And Highland dance- I love that you do something different and beautiful!!!! And if I’ve missed a studio- forgive me!!! Now let’s support one another! Let’s change this dance culture in Medicine Hat to one we are proud of. One that moulds our children’s characters into kind, inspired, empowering ones!!! Happy dancing everyone! 😁😁😁 - Miss Becky

THEME OF THE WEEK: ACCEPTANCE What does Acceptance mean? Loving someone for who they are, treating everyone the same with no judgement. How can we incorporate acceptance into our dance classes? Encouraging one another. Make everyone feel like they belong. Don’t be hard on yourself, accept that you will get to where you want to be with practice. Be open minded with others ideas. Why is choosing acceptance beneficial for our dance classes? I'm sure we can all agree that belonging is one of the greatest feelings out there, whether that be belonging to a club, a sports team or being a part of a supportive group of friends and family. We want Renew to feel like a “safe zone”, where we don't feel ashamed or alone, we feel loved and welcomed! That's why we want our students to choose to accept one another when they come to class. “Accept what is, let go of what was, and make changes towards what will be. Life’s about taking action.” - Kristen Butler Not only do we want our students to use these qualities inside dance class, we want to see these qualities shine inside them when they leave. So parents, please chat with your dancer about acceptance, remind them of the helpful tips and tricks they can use to show acceptance in life!
