facebook.com#transformationtuesday . Meet Camille! She’s been attending classes with us here at Lively Athletic Centre since we opened in April. She is also one of Coach Michelle’s nutrition clients. If you’ve been in a class with Camille, you already know how awesome she is, always a good time! And recently instructors are starting to call her the “incredible shrinking woman”. . Like most women, Camille came to us with goals related to numbers on the scale and a dress size. This is what we call “fitness as a destination”. And Coach Michelle has worked very hard to change that mindset with Camille to “fitness as a journey”. She also increased her calories (gasp!) and added some carbs back into her diet (double gasp!). The result? Waaaay more energy in her workouts...we will let Camille tell you the rest in her own words... . “When I started this journey of mine I remembered thinking I just want to fit back into my size 8 pants comfortably Lol. I was out at Banana Republic tonight with my girls so picked up some size 8 shorts already preparing myself before I went in to the change room that they may be snug or not do up...they fit comfortably with some room to spare!!!!!! Gosh that felt AMAZING and to like my reflection in the mirror!!! Fitness is forever!!!😍💪🏻 I will never stop moving again!!! Even while I’m away at camp for a few weeks this July. I will KEEP moving.” . That’s some real incredible sustainable changes right there. Camille’s dedication to this new lifestyle is also fueled by wanting to be a positive role model for her 3 young daughters. We are so excited to be part of Camille’s journey and can’t wait to keep following her progress. #mobilitymonday . This week we are featuring Catherine, one of our yoga instructors for Mobility Monday. She is demonstrating the “cat and cow” stretch. . Start in table top position with your wrists and elbows stacked under your shoulders and your knees stacked under your hips. Gradually start to tuck your pelvis and roll your spine to reach your back towards the ceiling, tucking your chin to your chest. This is the cow. Then gradually reverse this motion by looking up, rolling your spine towards the floor and tilting your pelvis. This is the cat. Use your breath to help you in this stretch, inhaling for the cat portion and exhaling for the cow. . This classic yoga pose helps relieve lower back pain and sciatica. It helps improve flexibility in your neck, shoulders and spine. It also stretches the muscles of your hips, back, abdomen, chest and lungs. . #fitfriday . Today’s Fit Friday topic is condiments. Condiments are that sneaky little side-food that enhances the flavour of the food you eat. Most times, you may think condiments are harmless because they’re used in small quantities, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Condiments can derail your health by making you eat more and slow digestion. . Ketchup for example, has more sugar than it does tomatoes. Store bought salad dressings are also packed full of sugar, artificial additives and preservatives. If you’re looking to avoid chemicals in your food, you won’t have much luck with store bought dressing. . So here’s a recipe of a clean salad dressing. It’s super simple and tastes great! 1 freshly squeezed lemon 1/3c of extra virgin olive oil Oregano, Himalayan salt & pepper Optional minced garlic clove for more flavour. Aislinn is a grade 10 student at Loellen Park Seondary School. She is a competitive swimmer with Nickel City Aquatics so she’s no stranger to a fit lifestyle. She’s a great fit for our #fitfamily. . #workoutwednesday . Looking to make your kettlebell swing more difficult? Here you see coach Shannon demonstrating a banded two hand kettlebell swing. . Kettlebell swings are one of the best exercises to build explosive hips for faster sprints or higher jumps. Try adding a resistance band. Loop it through the handle of the bell so one end is attached and one is off the bell. Step into the other end, positioning your feet on top of the band. Swing like you normally would but with added resistance. . This added resistance forces your hips to fire hard and challenges you at full hip extension. Looking to learn more about the kettlebell? #transformationtuesday . Meet Josephine! She’s been coming to Active Aging, Yoga and Pilates classes for about a month now. We are really enjoying seeing her progress and hearing her talk about how much better she’s feeling since taking control of her physical health! . We really wish we had a picture of what Josephine’s lunge looked like when she started. That back leg would not stretch and she was no where near 90 degrees on her front leg. Hip mobility was a significant issue. But look at her now! So much more mobility! She also tells us it feels “like someone has a string at the top of my head and they have pulled me up”. This feeling of improvement in posture is common when our older adult members get active and we love this kind of transformation! . We have classes for every level of fitness. #mobilitymonday . Here Coach Carli is showing us how she can use her flexibility and mobility to move through this pvc pipe. . Being mobile is a crucial aspect of being healthy. If a person is not able to move a joint freely through its full range of motion, then they are already putting themselves at an increased risk of injury before even attempting to pick up a weight and load that range of motion. .
