Kitchener Horticultural Society | Rockway Gardens :: seminar_2016-03-08

Another great (and free) 'gardenKitchener' seminar and demo is coming up on Tuesday, March 8. Jim Lounsbery will be talking about pruning. Landscape trees and shrubs may need to be pruned properly to ensure their long term shape, flowering qualities, health and longevity. He will demonstrate both the art and science of this subject. The lecture will consist of discussion on proper tools, timing, proper techniques in pruning smaller trees and shrubs and hands on demonstrations. Jim is the owner along with wife Simone of Vineland Nurseries - Specializing in Unusual Plants for over 30 years. http://www.kitchenerhs.ca/cms/events/2016/seminar_2014-02-11-2/

Seedy Saturday 2016 was our best ever since the Horticultural Society assumed responsiblity for the event some 7 years ago. Approximately 500 people attended the event that hosted 22 vendors (profit and non-profit) and featured 5 seminar speakers with between 50 and 60 attendees in each. In addition to the publicity received from main stream media (thank you very much David Hobson for the excellent coverage in the Record) we had over 1700 views on facebook and a reach of 2000 on Twitter. We look forward to an even bigger and better event in 2017. Special thanks go out to our partners (Kitchener Public Library, Kitchener Master Gardeners, District 19 Horticultural Societies) and to our many volunteers. Doesn't hurt either that our request for a beautiful day did not go unheeded. :)

It was really cool to see so many young people with their parents at the event. It was fun talking to our own Catherine McKenna who ably helped her father at the GardenKitchener/Kitchener Horticultural Society booth throughout the event

Had a really great day at our Seedy Saturday event at the Library. We had more vendors and visitors to the event than ever before. While accurate figures are impossible in this venue, we believe that close to 500 people took part. Seminars were well attended and comments from seminar attendees, vendors and event participants all seemed to be quite positive. If you missed it, watch for Seedy Saturday 2017. If you attended, we'd love to hear what you thought of it.

Reminder: tomorrow is Seedy Saturday!!! Why not shake off the winter doldrums by coming out to Seedy Saturday February 20th? This year’s Seedy Saturday event will be bigger and better than ever, as seven Horticultural Societies join together with the Kitchener Public Library and the Kitchener Master Gardeners to provide a great lineup of speakers on a variety of topics. We have five free seminars with really great speakers, over 20 vendors including local nurseries, seed vendors and seed catalogues, free seed exchange, expert advice from the master gardeners, and several draws. There is no entrance fee and no charge for the speakers although donations are welcome. http://bit.ly/1KPFvQZ
