RECENTLY IN THE MEDIA Recently a former employee has been making numerous false accusations in the media. You may have seen something on social media, a local television station, or a local newspaper. I want to assure the public that, at Dingaling’s, we strive to always operate with the highest of standards. I normally would not post a response to any accusations, however, I do believe that you should get the opportunity to read my version. Following a discussion with both the former employee and her mother, they were invited to visit me at the restaurant the next day to discuss any possible discrepancies in pay. They never came in. Instead, this former employee proceeded with filing a claim with the Labour Board regarding Unpaid Wages and Limits on Hours of Work. This claim is unjustified for two reasons. First, all wages have been paid for every hour worked, and no limits on hours of work have been exceeded. Secondly, in the original discussion, her mother stated that they had no idea how many hours were worked due to the fact that her daughter failed to keep track of her hours worked. A local television newscaster stated that 3 claims were filed with the Labour Board and that I had already complied with one of them. This was surprising to me because I had only received notification from the Labour Board for the one claim (as stated above). I even called the Labour Board and they said they did not see anything in their records with regards to what the television newscaster had reported about the other 2 claims. This former employee has also made MANY other false claims in the media. If you happened to have seen more than one of these media releases you have likely noticed that her quoted numbers keep changing, and that the other accusations continue to grow in both quantity and severity. Over the past 7 years I have employed dozens of part time students, many of whom have left for school and come back to work for us again later. Some of them employed for several years. Yet this former employee has led the general public to believe that numerous horrible things have happened to her in just 5 ½ weeks working as a part time student. In her attempt to hurt me personally, she has hurt a lot of people during this ordeal. My family and the existing staff at the restaurant have all been suffering due to these accusations and the unnecessary media attention. My apologies to the public that you were subjected to all this, Thank you for reading, and hopefully sharing, this post. Also, a special thank you to all the people who were kind enough to stop by and offer their support and empathy for the undue stress we have endured during these hard times. Shane Curran Owner
