Every December the sun sets for the last time below the horizon, and after nearly 30 days of darkness the return of the sun is celebrated at the annual Inuvik Sunrise Festival.
Local food, dance, music and winter activities, including a snowmobile parade, are all part of the spectacle. On the Saturday night a party on the permafrost continues the festivities with a giant bonfire and an incredible display of fireworks.
Come celebrate with us in January and experience the magic of the first sun during this phenomenal occasion.
This year, the sun is expected to be first seen on January 6, 2017 (according to the National Research Council of Canada).

"Sikiniq Nuimavia Katijvikput" meaning "As the Sun Rises we shall gather" starts one week after Inuvik's return of the sun, as it is situated further north of the Arctic Circle.
