Hi All! Great numbers already signed up for this seasons U8 program. Look forward to seeing you all at our parent meeting in December to answer questions and of course on the hill! This weekend is a big weekend for gear in Fernie town, and a great opportunity to get everything out for the kids so you can see what might need replaced, upsized, rethought, etc. Helmets: One issue with equiptment we encounter every year is helmets. A reminder for returning Fast families and new ones that FAST has a strict policy on helmets and all U8 athletes must have a full hard helmet. That means no soft ear attachments. This is for the safety of you child. We are happy to help you find second hand helmets through the club and there are many reasonably priced options in town. Boots: Ski boots must be well fitting and soft enough for the kids to be able to flex them properly. I understand how tempting it can be to try and get more years out of a boot by getting it a little big to start with, however a too big boot will seriously affect your child's ability to improve and have fun out there! Skis: The kids need a ski and bindings that have been safety checked. An allround carving shape, length roughly chin to nose is good, safety is priority over type. Please remember that the little skis need just as much love and attention as your own, if not more. We had a few troubles last year with unwaxed skis and kids being unable to move as clumps of snow stuck to their bases. Remember they don't have the weight advantage that we have and need a little gliding start! So check your gear cupboards, make a list, head to the ski swop! The new owners of the Guide's Hut, FAST parents Jay and Kim Carter are also having a coffee morning at the store from 8.30 Sunday morning 6th Nov. This is a great opportunity to meet other Fast families and the Guides Hut is now set up to further meet our young racer's needs. Their team will be able to help with any questions you have. Have a fun weekend! Enjoy the sunshine! Sincerely Lucia Glasse-Davies Fast U8 Head Coach

Great work everyone! Athletes, coaches and volunteers yesterday's ski cross race was a huge success!!
It's skier cross day!! Get creative with dress up fun and come cheer on your kids!!
Get your kids on the T Bar sooner than later!
Little skis have side cut so get your kids use to tipping the ski on edge especially on flatter terrain. Even a 4 year old should know the feeling of a carving ski.
Introducing the pole plant. It's important that by the age of 8ish young athletes develop a strong pole plant so don't be afraid to start early. Pole planting is a much needed skill for slalom in particular. It helps bring the athlete forward and down the hill while creating a stable platform. Focus on strong and down the hill in front of the boots and keep it fun!!
Morning Parents. Weather looks great and snow is perfect for our little athletes. Dress warm and pack snacks for out on the hill. Be on the deer chair before 9:30 today so you're not rushed getting to the hut. Also... For any parents interested in a Masters "learn to race" or "race" program there is a group coming together. I will be at the racer hut at 10:15 if you're interested in learning more about ski racing or want to improve your own skills. Upstairs at 10:15 for a very quick 15minutes to chat. Cheers!!
