Another great night of racing… It took a bit for us to get rolling as we had to try to figure out how to get the timing system up and running… Amazing how effective a few hits with the hammer on the computer can be Curt… Hahaha… It was kOoL to see Jared and Clayton show up again, this hobby can certainly become addicting, right Billy…? The first event was our IROC class, and once again we got to play with Rick's “killer” VW Bugs, he has tweaked them a bit to make them a bit smoother, but still provided lot's of carnage… Very close racing with the new guys catching on quickly… Here is the final finishing order: 1st: Pat 76 laps 8.239 best lap 2nd: Ron 74 laps 8.490 best lap 3rd: Kirby 74 laps 8.304 best lap 4th: Mark 70 laps 8.590 best lap 5th: Rick 68 laps 8.325 best lap 6th: Billy 64 laps 9.012 best lap 7th: Clayton 62 laps 9.397 best lap 8th: Jared 61 laps 9.124 best lap Next we ran the scheduled Sports Car race, and thanks to Kirby for lending Jared and Clayton some cars so they could race with us, and here are the results of that event: 1st: Pat 97 laps 6.945 best lap 2nd: Ron 93 laps 7.425 best lap 3rd: Rick 91 laps 7.294 best lap 4th: Kirby 87 laps 7.629 best lap 5th: Mark 84 laps 7.972 best lap 6th: Billy 80 laps 8.078 best lap 7th: Jared 77 laps 8.215 best lap 8th: Clayton 74 laps 8.230 best lap Hopefully we will see everyone next week… Slot on…!!! We had another awesome night of racing last night! We were a little late getting started with the racing, but that was because we had three guests come and visit - Jared, Clayton, and Tegan! All three of the guests joined us for the Frank 'n Eldon IROC race, using Pat's Eldon bodies with hand-crafted brass & steel chassis and Slot-It motor pods and drive gear. And of course everyone was very impressed with how well these cars ran Pat came in first with 83 laps, followed closely by Kirby, Ron and Mark with 82 each, Me, Tom, and Rick all with 81 laps each, followed by Bill with 75, Jared with 72, Clayton with 68, and Tegan with 51 laps. A VERY commendable effort for all three newbies, particularly for Tegan, who is very young, new to the track, and had a very low and possibly awkward view of the track surface. Next time she comes we should have a stool for her! The regular members ran the Group 5 race, while Clayton, Jared, and Tegan all helped marshal. In this one Pat broke the 3-digit barrier with 101 laps, Mark was close behind with 97, Ron with 96, and Tom and me with 95 each. Rick was next with 93 laps, Kirby with 87, and Bill with 82. A good result for Bill, who is still new to this game and our track, and who is playing around with borrowed controllers. I think a great time was had by all, and everyone is looking forward to Clayton, Jared and Tegan joining us again in the future! We had another great night of racing last night! While the track was getting vacuumed and prepped, Rick cleaned up and added some light tubes in the hallway to make things a little more comfortable. Since the Proxy race on Saturday our landlord has had the bathroom floor re-tiled and a new toilet installed. He has also added a bunch of his own collector car miniatures on the shelves. Our slot car room is becoming a totally awesome man-cave! Our first race of the evening was an IROC running Mark's Missiles! I didn't check out the details, but I believe that they are all Slot.It LeMans cars that Mark has tuned up, and they are FAST! I had to adjust my controller for full brake and almost minimum sensitivity just to retain some semblance of control... Dariusz finished first in the IROC race with a total of 96 laps, followed by Pat with 93, Tom with 91, and Mark with 87. I led the next pack with 83, Bill was right behind me with 81, and Rick came in with 70. In one of the heats Rick finished the heat with only 3 laps due to mechanical breakdown, after which Mark brought in a replacement car, so if Rick had been able to complete that heat unhindered, he would have been up around 90 laps as well. The Second race of the evening was our Spyder Sports Car event, and Pat came in first with 103 laps, followed by Dariusz with 99, and Tom and Mark, both with 96 laps each. Following mark was Rick with 89, me with 86, and Bill and his new car with 78. Once Bill is able to get his car tuned up and running the way he likes it, he is going to be a serious competitor! And that was the evening. Next week we will be running Pat's IROC cars again, and Group 5. Have a great weekend, and we will see you next week! We had another great turnout and a great night of racing again! One of the original founding members and a relative newby joined us again last night for a scary race of old Scalextric Mercedes and Opel cars, and our Group 5 Class. The Scaleys are my simple set - absolutely stock Scalextric cars from probably the late 70's or maybe 80's, two Mercedes and two Opels. Even the tires are stock, since I haven't been able to locate or make urethane tires as thin as the originals. They make a lot of noise, and I had to add a lot of weight to make them get any traction at all. By coupling these with a set of even older Strombecker thumb-style controllers the playing field was REALLY level! Fastest lap was a 10.664 that I managed to do. Pat brought in the lead with a total of 54 laps (10.864 fastest), followed by Randy, Ron, Rick, and Kirby, all with 52 laps each. Even though I had the fastest lap, I only managed a total of 51 laps. Mark pulled in with 41, Tom with 40, and Bill managed 38. It seems that the cars are all very well matched, but the controllers definitely had their issues - one had no brake, and they all seemed to have dead and sweet spots. They obviously need more tuning for next time! In our Group 5 class, Ron brought in top honors with 97 laps, followed by Tom with 95, Pat with 94, then Randy, me, and Mark, all with 91 laps each. Rick was hot on our heels with 90, Kirby with 89, and Bill with 78. It seems that everyone had a good time, and we are looking forward to Saturday's PanAmerica Proxy race! We had a BLAST last night! But first, a recap of the results from LAST week! Our first race last week was an IROC using Pat Bodard's Frank'NEldon Cars. These are '60's era Eldon bodies with hand-crafted brass chassis, using Slot.It motor pods and running gear. Of course Pat did a really great job with these, they are quite fast and nice and easy to handle. In fact, they are so good that there was a difference of only 9 laps from leader to last across the line. Pat made the most laps with his cars with a total of 85, followed by Dariusz with 84, and Tom and David both with 83. I managed a total of 81 laps, followed by Rick and Mark, both with 80 laps apiece. Our guest for the evening, Don from Vancouver, pulled in a very respectable 76 laps! Second race of the evening was our Group 5 class. In this one, Mark and David both pulled in 95 laps each, followed by yours truly with 94. Tom was right on my tail with 93, followed by Pat with 92 and Rick with 89. I'm not sure what Dariusz was doing, but he only ran 16 laps with his car. And that bought our first night of official racing at our new location to a close! So back to last night! We had another guest at the track - welcome to Bill Bosch! There were introductions all around, lots of talk, and lots of running laps. We were supposed to be running Rick's Volkswagen Beetles, but he didn't show up, so we decided to do Pat's Eldons again. We were just finishing the first of 8 heats with the Eldons when Rick showed up with his Beetles, so we scrapped the Eldon race and fired up the VolksBuggers! OK, these things are different! Rick bought 4 identical Volkswagen model kits and built and painted them up to suit the lanes. The chassis are hand-crafted brass, with Piranha motors and Slot.It running gear. These things are fast, a little on the heavier side, and somewhat top-heavy, making them harder to handle on the corners. Being round, there was LOTS of rolling around in the corners of the track, not to mention everybody rolling around on the floor, laughing! Again, these cars are well matched. Pat and Ron both pulled off 76 laps each in this race, followed by Captain Catastrophe (a very suitable nickname for this race) and Crash Coulas with 74 laps each. Kirby and Mark both did 69 laps, David did 68, Rick did 63, and our guest, Bill, did incredibly well with 60 laps. Considering that he had never raced on our track before, this is a very good result! The second race of the evening last night was our Spyder/SportsCar Class. In this one Pat hit the triple digits with a total of 100 laps! Tom managed 96, followed by Rick with 95 and Ron with 91. I wasn't far behind with 89, and Kirby was right behind me with 88. David brought his car across the line 83 times, while Mark did 78 and Bill pulled in with 75. Again a very respectable result for a newby on our track! After the races there was lots more chatter, and I took a sander and some more paint to fix some of the spots in the track that were still a little rough. We should have a really nice smooth track surface for next week, and the PanAmerican Proxy! See you then! Curt Secretary Greater Edmonton Toy Car And Racing Society
