Finally, fitness without intimidation is here!
BCRPA Group Fitness

Pre and Postnatal Fitness  Welcome to Longevity Fitness and Nutrition!
Longevity Fitness and Nutrition is owned and operated by… me! My name is Megan Lacourse, and I am your typical 36 year old Mom, born and raised in beautiful Cumberland BC.  I have spent the last 20 years raising kids (5 biological and 3 bonus) each with their own amazing personalities, strengths and passions.  Approximately 4 years ago after fairly significant back and joint issues, I decided it was time to take a portion of my life back for myself.  The problem was, I started having my kids so young, and had so many of them that I had no idea where to start! I began small, walking, then working out at home.  I soon fell in love with how I felt and was excited to share that feeling with friends.  I began researching different exercises, attending fitness classes, looking into various training principles and nutritional trends and I quickly became even more enthralled.  I started a Facebook group for friends to keep each other accountable over the winter months last year, and it was a smashing success.  I run contests, keep track of fitness “check ins” by members, and began meeting at various places around the Comox Valley for group walks and mini workouts.
At the urging of my group members, I registered for my Nutritional education via distance education, and pursued my Fitness Theory and Group Fitness Certifications through the BCRPA (British Columbia Parks and Recreation Association) I began running what I call bootcamp classes (for lack of a better word), first just for friends, and now starting to branch out to the public.  This is where I like to clarify though… The classes I run are not full of fit people looking to get fitter… they are not drill sergeant type classes or full of scary looking equipment and pushing you until you feel sick.  My classes are truly adaptable for all fitness levels.  I know many fitness groups say that as a marketing gimmick, but I truly want my clients to feel accomplished and successful at the end of the hour.  I believe a well-designed workout, instructed by someone certified in Group Fitness who has been properly trained to ensure the workouts are safe and variable for all is the best way to be successful for both the trainer and the client.

I am no different from any other person out there... I do not eat perfectly every day, I miss workouts, and I am not a hard bodied, typical fitness trainer, but I love what I do, and I truly am in it for the well-being of my clients, (and myself!). We have fun and laugh our way through the classes while strengthening our bodies, relaxing our minds, and forging friendships with one another.  We celebrate successes and support each other through setbacks, motivating each other and helping one another reach goals.  It is exactly like the saying “You can tell who the strong people are… they are the ones lifting each other up instead of tearing one another down!”
As I move forward in my Fitness training, I will be not only improving on the classes I already run, but adding new ones as I complete my specialty courses.  I will also continue to progress toward my Registered Nutritional Consulting Practitioner designation, and hope that you will join us whether it’s in a class, for a nutritional consultation (coming soon), or simply by liking the Facebook page and showing support and unity in health.
Whether you have a little or a lot to lose, or are simply wanting to live a fitter, healthier life, we guarantee you will feel welcome and supported.  Don't be intimidated by drill sergeant type bootcamps, crowded fitness classes, aggressive groups of the super fit or overwhelmed by the look of a weight room. Come join us in a challenging, yet adaptable workout full of variations, encouragement and accountability!

I was lucky enough to get away to Mexico the first week of May with my husband and some friends. I am so proud to say that in my absence, rather than take the week off, my girls continued to meet without me! How's that for motivation?! Way to go ladies! I'm back now, and schedule is in full swing! Message me to try a free class anytime!

This is exactly how I got started working out in the first place. It really is true that the only barriers you have are the ones you put in place. There are ways to make exercise safe and effective for everyone, and once you feel the benefits, there's no going back! Feel like you have a barrier? I can help <3

Have patience and trust the process. It can be a frustrating road, but with good advice, a great group of supportive women alongside you and the knowledge that you can (and will!) achieve your goals, the sky's the limit!

Recognize your obstacle, acknowledge it, think about it for a set amount of time (15 minutes even) then put it aside and kick some serious butt!!! We all have these feelings from time to time, but these feelings do not define you! You are stronger and more capable than you even know, no matter how strong and capable you already feel! Keep going!!!

You can tell it's Spring soon...the birds are singing, the daffodils are poking through, the sun is out...and the people promoting "health and wellness" supplements, shakes, patches, cleanses and fads are out in full force telling you how you better get that summer body ready! Or maybe telling you how you need what they are peddling to increase your energy, give you better focus or improve your nutrition. They may be telling you how you need to "cleanse" your body. (Sorry folks, that's what your liver and kidneys are for!) The bottom line is people are making money playing off of other people's insecurities. They want you to buy into what they are selling so they can keep the marketing pyramid going... whether it's to get free product themselves or to generate income. While there is nothing wrong with generating income (we all do it!) there is no pill, patch or shake that is going to create a miracle for you. In fact, most are not effective at all, and some can be downright dangerous, not to mention expensive! Some of these sellers can be very pushy and even derogatory to those that do not believe in their system. Don't listen to the questionable sales tactics and miracle promises! At the end of the day, taking care of yourself by eating good food (most of the time!) staying well hydrated, moving your body and allowing for downtime is the safest, most effective way to achieve good health....and for the most part, it's free! Oh, and let me tell you a secret... you already have a body that's perfectly capable of taking you through the summer! If you have any specific questions, or are looking for realistic tips, feel free to message me!
