The Moving Realm of Words

This weekend at the Abbey Studio! Featuring original work performed by Jennifer Lee, Molly McFaul, Laurie Montemurro,Trina Rasmuson, and Cathy Stoyko. The moving realm of words is based on a construct within which we all share the same basic vocabulary in our lives, loss, desire, dream, confusion, etc. Simple words which carry such significance to each individual as they encounter them. Each word creates a thread weaving a story into the very fabric of our being, a sheen to our skin, a warp to our walk. Tickets are $15 at the door. 7PM door , 7:30 start

Arcana Dea, Belly Dance for Teens

An introdcution to 'Belly Dance' for female identified youth ages 14-17. 'Belly dance' is an ever evolving dance form with roots in women's traditional and sacred dances from the middle east, India and Cenral Asia. Students will learn a vocabulary of basic movements, with a focus on positive body image, solid technique, and fun! Also, gain exposure diverse music and the cultural dances at the roots of this dance form. Over the 6 week session we learn a 'Tribal Fusion' choreography by building on combinations learned in class. Tuesday evenings 6PM-7:00PM *ongoing for 4 weeks if there are enough registered at the first class 4 week session $40 min. 5, max 8 students class size For more information contact Cathy Stoyko at (250) 218-0704 Cathy draws on 20+ years dancing and 12 years teaching in a variety of dance styles including; modern dance, tribal fusion belly dance, Romany ‘gypsy’, and women’s traditional dances from India, and the Silk Road. She mainly teaches adults but has had the mutally rewarding experience of teaching youth dancers in the past through; the Denman Isl. Community School, Doyna Ukrainian Dancers and Triple Heat Summer Dance Camp. Arcana Dea is a dance company based in the Comox Valley B.C. founded by artistic director Cathy Stoyko. We celebrate the 'Mysteries of the Goddess' aka Arcana Dea through sharing dances with ancient roots and presenting inspiring events that celebrate the power of women dancing together. We perform women's dances from the Middle East, India, Romani 'gypsy' dance, fusion belly dance and contemporary dance theatre.

Morning Shimmy Shakedown Spring Session

Come and dance! Classes on Tuesday mornings 9:30AM-10:45 AM. Start the day with a fun, high energy dance workout that draws on various styles of bellydance, ecstatic dance, Romani dance, folk dances... with focus on shimmies, shaking, vibrations and rocking movements. A great way to energize your body/spirit and sample a variety of dance styles. All experience/levels welcome. Drop in $15 or $60 /6 classes *Classes will run ongoing if there are at least 5 people registered for min. 6 weeks.
