Have you picked up the Cold Lake Sun?? Our second Images of Hope client made the paper again! "My mom has always been strong; she shows strength in ways that she doesn’t even know. Her strength has been tested time and time again." Many people across the country have known someone who has struggled with cancer but for Amanda Griemann it really hits closer to home. Amanda’s mother Connie Griemann was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2013, being the strong woman that she is, she fought hard and after her treatments she was deemed in remission. Unfortunately February 3rd of this year her family received the devastating news, she has a tumor in her brain. Amanda’s best memories with her mother have taken place in the kitchen as they both share a passion for cooking. “I am grateful for these times, and for her constantly peering over my shoulder and giving a silent approval. Or a quiet smile that would instantly ignite my defense and give her the perfect opportunity to remind me that she was the master and I the student. She has shown me how to be diligent and take pride in my work through the lessons I’ve learnt in her kitchen. “ Connie and her family are long time members of the Lakeland community, they have lived in Cold Lake for 21 years. Connie has been happily married to husband Gary for 33 years. They share 4 children and 7 grandchildren, with one on the way. Her family would describe her as a loving and caring woman, who is passionate about her loved ones." She is the definition of what a mother should be: Supportive, unconditionally understanding, hardworking, thoughtful and proud. I believe when my mother looks at her family, even for all our flaws and misfortunes, she is proud because in every one of us kids there is a piece of her" says her daughter Amanda. Connie is not the first member in their family to fight the battle against cancer. Connie’s' husband, Gary Griemann; was diagnosed with Colon and Liver cancer in 2008. He was in remission and is now cancer free. Also both Gary and Connie have lost a parent to cancer. Connie and her family's lives have changed in a big way, but they choose to look on the brighter side of life and see things positively. They want to urge everyone who reads this to live a fulfilled life and not to take anything for granted. "Chase your dreams, work hard for what you want and don’t let anyone tell you that it’s not an option. Treat yourself well, and love yourself. Find the value that life has to hold and don’t lose sight of what makes you happy.” Her family was nominated a few times for Images of hope, but it was a nomination made by daughter Meghan that really caught Images Studios attention. Her family wanted a beautiful keepsake of their mother. "There is something so special about being able to keep these memories on display in our home as well as our hearts, so that others can see what we have, and how lucky we are." The family believes it was important to share their story with our community because cancer is something that has so strongly affected their lives, but also to some degree it has affected everyone’s life. “It’ll touch your life and change it forever, sometimes for the positive and sometimes for the worse. Cancer unfortunately is everyone’s story, so by sharing ours, we hope that you don’t feel alone in yours.” In celebrating their 25th anniversary, Images studios will be giving a session and a wall portrait away once a month to a deserving family, couple or individual.
