Nuts and seeds are an amazing source of protein, fiber, and healthy mono- and polyunsaturated fats. The seeds of a plant contain the highest concentration of energy and nutrients, which the plant will need in the first stages of its growth. These little power packs of energy are perfect additions to our regular diet. Pumpkin seeds are beneficial because they contain 14 % of our daily required phosphorus which, combined with calcium, strengthens our bones and teeth. Sunflower seeds are a potent source of magnesium, providing 25 % of our daily recommended intake. In order to keep our muscles happy, healthy, and not sore we need adequate levels of magnesium. Last but not least, the all powerful chia seed! Famous for their high protein content, chia seeds can provide 5.6 g of protein per 28 gram serving or 2 tbsp. These seeds are the perfect vegan alternative to animal protein. But it doesn't stop there, chia seeds are also an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, fiber, iron and calcium. They truly are a miracle seed. So next time you are having a bowl of yogurt toss in some of these powerful seeds and feel your energy levels rising! #seedpower #energy #sunflowerseed #pumpkinseed #chiaseed

What better way to warm ourselves in this deep winter cold than hot-out-of-the-oven roasted potatoes. Here is a yummy recipe straight from Yogi Bhajan. This nicely spiced warm and filling dish will heat you up from inside to out, helping to purify your blood, stimulate digestion, and increase your energy levels. 4 large baking potatoes 1/4—1/2 cup (65-125 ml) ghee or vegetable oil 2-3 onions, chopped 1/4—1/2cup (65-125 ml) ginger root, minced 1/4 teaspoon caraway seeds 1-2 Tablespoons (20-40 ml) garlic, minced 1 teaspoon black pepper 3/4-1 teaspoon turmeric 1 teaspoon cayenne or crushed red chilies 8 whole cloves 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 2-4 Tablespoons (40-80 ml) soy sauce or salt to taste 1/2 pint (500 ml) cottage cheese Optional: 1/2 pound (225 gram) cheese, grated 1 red or green bell pepper, diced 1/2 cup (125 ml) chopped pineapple, drained Scrub potatoes, rub with small amount of oil and bake at 400° F (200° C), until well done. Heat ghee or oil in large skillet. Sauté onions and ginger until they begin to brown, then add garlic and spices and cook 4-5 minutes longer. Add a little water if necessary. Add soy sauce (optional). Stir and remove from heat. Cut baked potatoes in half, lengthwise. Scoop out the insides and combine with onion mixture. Add cottage cheese. Mix well and refill potato shells, covering each with grated cheese. Broil until cheese is melted and bubbly. For a nice touch, garnish with bell pepper and pineapple. Serves four. Enjoy!
January is a time when we typically focus on change a little more than normal, and strive to align our intentions with the outcome we desire. How amazing would it be to also consider how those outcomes will not only create the life we want but also the world we want. We have some changes happening at the studio this month too. Our wonderful teacher Nathalie Olson will be taking a little teaching sabbatical for a couple of months to recharge and focus on her thesis. Don't worry though, Nathalie will still be subbing and attending classes! Chrissy Skerritt will be filling in for Nathalie in the Thursday night Sacred Posture class. Chrissy is a new teacher at Sacred Arts and brings a lot of experience and a wonderful presence to her classes. Check out the drop-in schedule for a couple other minor changes. #januarychanges #teacherupdates #bethechange #greatquotes #yogainspiration
