This is a scary chart, but the GOOD NEWS is that 77% of Canadian's debt is mortgage debt. Making mortgage payments is no different (in principle) than putting money into your RRSP. In both cases, an asset is being built that will prove useful in retirement. Ask us about a strategy to provide money for an RRSP deposit and a lump sum to put against your mortgage. WIN WIN!

Our monthly "fun" money can get out of control. Dinners out, drinks with friends. January is the perfect month to stay in. Tip #4: Invite your friends over instead of going out! Make dinner, order pizza in, open a bottle of wine you have already. It's too cold to go outside anyways! Think of all the money you can save!

One thing Syd does is he saves every $5 bill he gets back in his change. Tip #3: try saving a little bit everyday. Whether it be every $5 bill you get, or every Toonie. Put it somewhere and forget about it. A great way to give your RRSP a boost at the end of the year.

Sticking to a budget is not easy these days. There are so many daily temptations. The biggest one for most of us is eating out. Meal planning is a great way to keep those resolutions by saving money and staying healthy. Tip #2: Try making your lunch for the rest of the week. How about forgoing that Starbucks coffee in the morning for extra savings.
