Ploughshares Community Farm
Description
Ploughshares Community Farm is a joint and diversely mixed farming effort on the banks of the Brokenhead River just southeast of Beausejour. We offer the "Ploughshares Produce" vegetable CSA with deliveries to Beausejour, Pinawa and St. Vital. Alongside our vegetable gardens we also keep cattle, pigs, milk goats and chickens.
For us, sustainability means farming with nature, rather than against it. This means many things. Avoiding synthetic fertilizers and pesticides is a good place to start. Somewhere along the road to sustainability we also have to learn to live on the sunlight given to us each year rather than the ancient sunlight stored in fossil fuels. We rely on a lot of human-power to produce our food and are experimenting with animal power but still have a long way to go before retiring the tractor.

Last night, I heard geese flying overhead as I was walking back from locking up the chickens. The geese were saying, "Spring is coming, spring is coming! Are you still taking customers for your CSA this year?" "YES," I said. To sign up, go to https://goo.gl/forms/yQovOrQFlGKlBrTi2

Matthew and I mowing down our green manure plot with some old/new technology. I never got my oxen team pulling straight enough to pull this mower. But doing this job makes me realize what a near miss the animal traction experiment was. The mower works nicely.
