Happy Canada Day !
We have experienced a great loss at the Best Western Plus Regency Inn & Conference Centre . Caryn Zimmerman, our beloved friend, colleague and really a part of our family has passed way. She was the energy and brilliance behind our social media sites and has represented our hotel with grace, humor, dedication, love and joy. She will be missed for all these reasons and so much more. Her Son Nik offered this heart felt tribute to his mother that captures her spirit beautifully: "Today we say with sorrow in hearts that our beloved Caryn, Queen of the Flip Flops, has packed up her beach bag and moved on to a big, white sandy beach somewhere with bright blue waves crashing on the shore. She fought a hard but brief battle with cancer, and although right now we are sad, we can take solace in thinking about all the amazing times we’ve shared with her and her alter-ego, Lola Holiday. With a smile that lit up a room and an energetic voice (read: not quiet) that let everyone know she had arrived, Caryn opened her heart to anyone she came across and could instantly make friends with anyone, or anything - I dare say that she could talk the ear off of, and then become best friends with a lonely coat rack in the corner, only to turn around and introduce him to the rest of the room and provide a complete and thorough backstory of its own! What a character! Mum would do anything to ensure that everyone else was taken care of before herself, and because of this we respected her wishes that this remain a relatively private battle. This may come as a shock to many of you (*wink wink*), but Caryn was an extremely steadfast character who stood her ground, accepted any challenge, and didn’t stop until she had achieved her goal - even when Caryn was down for the count, she still ruled the roost! Classic Mum! Though her voice has fallen quiet for now, rest assured that there are many, many more of us ready and willing to take up the torch of being “the crazy one” (with her son Nik leading the charge) and to carry on where that sweetheart of a lady left off. Caryn’s ability to instantly connect with anyone she came across was an amazing feat that has warmed our hearts over these last few days as we have seen a humbling outpouring of support and friendship, and for that we are truly grateful. Anyone who knew Mum knows that her zest for life, love, laughter, and flip flops was insatiable and as such it’s important that we strive to carry on in her memory. They say it takes a village to raise a person, but it’s become evident that it also takes a village to say goodbye - lean on each other in these difficult times, shed your tears of sadness, but then think of something fun and crazy about her and have a big old laugh about it. She wouldn’t have it any other way!"
