Peppercorns Home School
Description
Peppercorns Home School offers quality early childhood to primary education, incorporating an international curriculum for children aged two to six.
Who We Are & What We Offer
Peppercorns Home School offers high quality early childhood and primary education to the children of Kampot, incorporating a combined international curriculum (UK & Australia) through play-based and thematic learning. Classes and activities currently cater for students aged 3 to 6 in a safe and engaging learning environment.
The curriculum is divided into 2 levels: Prep/Reception (4-5yrs) and Kindergarten/Year 1 (5-6yrs). Placement is based on an assessment of individual students’ abilities in the areas of literacy, numeracy and social skills, with age serving as a guide only. Class sizes range from 6-12 students. Plans are underway to develop a Nursery/Creche program for children aged 2-3 in early 2016.
Curriculum
Students enjoy a play-based curriculum with learning and assessment in the areas of interpersonal development, language and literacy, reasoning and numeracy, creative arts and music, health and physical education, world/environment discovery, ICT and cultural diversity. Students gradually transition into a more formal teaching environment, retaining small classes that tailor learning to each child's needs to build confidence and independence.
Peppercorns Home School places a strong emphasis on teaching children about respect and how to think for themselves. We focus on health and hygiene, manners and mindfulness, inclusiveness and acceptance, positive motivation and working together.
All students enjoy social time together to learn about themselves, each other and the world around them. The younger children engage in explorative activities like water play, sand play, arts and crafts, books, singing, dancing, role play and yoga. Older students gradually transition into a more structured learning environment, whilst continuing to learn through exploration of their surroundings and creative activities.
Our full day curriculum provides the students with additional language studies (ESL & KSL) and supplementary tuition in the areas of numeracy and literacy. It also greatly extends the students’ development around sport, theatre, music and visual arts.
Communication & Assessment
At Peppercorns we value communication and encourage parents to take an active role in their child’s education. Students will be provided with a Home Book which will be used as a communication tool for parents/guardians and teachers. Any information relating to your child’s day will be relayed here, as well as any accomplishments or minor concerns. We will also use this book to remind you about school holidays and any other changes at the school.
The Noticeboard at the entrance to the school will also be updated regularly to keep you informed of the activities and themes being explored at school. Any changes in staffing will be noted here, and our full school calendar will be on display as well.
