St George's Day - 23rd April Patron Saint of England, among other countries. (The day is celebrated by various Christian Churches and by the several nations, kingdoms, countries, and cities of which Saint George is the patron saint. ) The earliest documented mention of St. George in England comes from the venerable Bede (c. 673–735). His feast day is also mentioned in the Durham Collectar, a ninth-century liturgical work. This sculpture of St George is in my home town of Newcastle upon Tyne - in Eldon Square and is a war memorial to the great war (WW1). http://www.victorianweb.org/sculpture/hartwell/5.html
