Animal Rescue Organization Spas Bihac
Description
Spas is a nonprofit organization located in Bihac, Bosnia and Herzegovina which was established in January 2009 by a group of dedicated, hard-working animal lovers, all with the same passion: to make a difference and give neglected animals a chance. One of the bigger problem in Bihac is the municipal shelter for stray dogs. It was built with a limited budget in June 2012 in the middle of a valley 17 km far from Bihac. It’s located near a garbage landfill. This small shelter offers space for 100 dogs in 30 pens with small wooden kennels.
There is no water (just a tank that freeze in winter and with no pressure in other seasons) and no electricity. Outside the pens, roughly 300 dogs roam freely. Since no food is provided for these free-roaming dogs, they survive by scavenging garbage from the landfill.
Volunteers go to monitor the shelter on week-ends and any time they are able to find transportation to that remote area.
The municipal budget for shelter is limited, so the dogs that live in the pens are given very little to eat, and "meals often consist of just dry bread as food. Perhaps the most tragic detail concerning these dogs is that none of them is neutered or vaccinated.
For these reasons, Spas needs any kind of help.
