RFBYC Sports Boat Series - Races 1-3 held on Saturday Oct 5th. Final results are now available. We held three short, sharp, windward/leeward races in a good breeze dodging around Division boats also sailing the same course. The Viper 640 'Fizz' managed 2 wins on the day, but the Thompson 750 'Turnham Green' was the most consistent with two seconds and a third. Unfortunately the Melges 24 'Red Rackham' had a major wardrobe malfunction with their spinnaker and ended up sending Karl under the boat with a knife to clear the mess. That's sports boat sailing for you.

Just a reminder that the RFBYC Sports Boat Series is on again this year. The event comprises the two windward/leeward 3-race days (Nov 5th and Feb 4th) and a single (long) race on March 11th. As usual we have our Perpetual SMS and PHS trophies up for grabs. Hope to see you all on the start line.

Yeah, nice photo Adrian. One of the middle of the river would have told a different story. To start with, thanks to Mitch de Vries and The Duck's Nuts crew for coming over from SoPYC. I think they found it a bit windy for their big rig. I counted 7 crew - is that a record? Pete Chalmer and his Shaw 650 decided it wasn't worth breaking gear so stayed onshore. I wasn't so smart and went pretty damned close to wiping the wind vane off the top of the mast on my Melges 24 when we went over, but later broke my rudder off so had to get towed home. Congratulations to Rob Mennie on Calamari Run (Melges 24) and Andy Miller on Red Rackham (Melges 24) who not only survived but also managed to fly their spinnakers. That's why we sail sports boats!

Looked all very calm on the mooring but gusting 29 knots on the river. Wet race and one exhilarating kite set for Calamari Run - happy with the final result!
