“The Aston Community Awards night was an inspiring and touching experience. There were many elderly people who have been serving for over 50 years – who today still continue to do what they do, who have incredible and very moving stories. Life’s a journey. We have a choice how to live it. Living it by helping others, watching them grow, seeing them smile and laughing with them. That’s rewarding in itself. You can always find time to love and serve, more often than not, I find that paperwork can wait…” Kim Yapp – winner of the Aston Community Youth Volunteer Achievement Award. citylife.church/appreciation #citylifefamily

“At TaskForce, we lead kids but also get taught how to serve at the same time. We do worship, craft and muck around with kids from pre-school up to grade 3. Often parents just drop off their kids and they head straight for service in big church. You never really know all the hard work that goes behind the scenes. You start to appreciate all the effort the leaders put in to make everything happen.” Lachlan Smith citylife.church/appreciation #citylifefamily

“The first Life Group I led was during my uni days. It was called Campus Team then and in my final year of uni, I was given the opportunity to lead and my co-leader then was James, who eventually became my husband! (Not a bad place to meet your spouse!)... but on a serious note, what kept me going was the joy and inspiration I received from leading. Whilst many think that leaders give, in essence what I have given, I have received back many fold in return. Nothing beats the joy of seeing one of your members grow, or coming back to the Lord, or go on to greater things than me. We have been humbled, and have learned a lot about people. That's what a Life Group is - a group where you do life together - and our lives are richer because of the community we are in.” April Lim citylife.church/appreciation #citylifefamily

“From a young age I’ve always been fascinated by music, how different pieces come together to create something beautiful. There’s a great sense of inclusion amongst the music team, to support one another, so that together we can provide an atmosphere to draw people closer to God. Thinking about the parable of the talents (Matthew 25), God has given us all talents and I have met so many who have been given the five talents and using it in amazing ways. I like to encourage those who have been given the one talent to consider how they might invest it in a way, or work together with others, so that the talent is not hidden but instead have a multiplier effect to help build the church.” Bill Turner citylife.church/appreciation #citylifefamily

“I joined the church in 1988 and got involved in serving straight away – I love to serve! I was from overseas and it’s a wonderful way to meet new people and make friends. My background is Admin and in 1995 I decided I wanted to make a difference and came to work at the church. I worked at the church for 14 years and then when I retired was inspired to continue helping out and I still volunteer in the office to this day. One of the greatest highlights for me is when Pete and I got involved in helping with the Eternity Drama in 1998, which eventuated in Pete becoming a Christian and us getting involved in Alpha for many years. Volunteering has helped create connections in our lives that I would never have thought would happen. When we make ourselves available to God he uses us in incredible ways.” citylife.church/appreciation #citylifefamily
