As and APD, Jarrah is uniquely qualified to give dietary advice to  individuals with a range of health conditions. After a history of working in private practice and aged care, Jarrah has developed a special interest in applying a "wholefoods" approach to the management of weight-loss and metabolic conditions, such as Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease, in addition to food allergies, intolerances, and vegetarian and vegan diets.  

Also available for purchase are a range of wholesome nutrition programs, complete with menus, shopping lists and recipes.

All consults attract private health rebates, and patients referred by their Doctor with an EPC will also attract a $52.95 rebate at the point of payment. For DVA patients there is no out-of-pocket charge and for patients with a valid health care card/pension card, initial appointments are offered at a reduced rate.

Kick-ass Calcium Kid

Following on from my last post about Vitamin D, I decided I’d put together a little information for you all on calcium, another nutrient essential for bone health. In my experience as a Dietitian, calcium is an underrated and often excluded nutrient by many people, especially women. But don’t worry if you do not, or cannot eat dairy. There are still plenty of non-dairy and vegan sources of calcium and to help you out I have complied a list of high calcium foods, both animal and non-animal. So I encourage you all to read up on calcium and make sure that you have enough of it in your diet. After all, we all want happy, healthy bones when we're older.

The Sunshine Vitamin

I recently discovered I am vitamin D deficient. Yup. The events that lead up to this discovery are spread out over 18 months, starting with a broken ankle, followed a body composition scan that showed below average bone density and culminating two weeks ago with a broken toe. And, as I sat there absentmindedly listening to my GP telling me the consequences of low vitamin D, I realised that I spend most of my time either indoors or behind glass, covered in SPF50+ or in long sleeves, sunglasses and a hat. Because, as my skin specialist likes to remind me every six months, I’m high risk for Melanoma. So by avoiding the sun to save my skin, I’ve put my bone health at risk. But we now know that the effects of low vitamin D don’t end with broken bones ...

Breakfast of champions: Porridge

Yesterday morning there was a distinct chill in the air as I rolled out of bed. Having been blessed with the worst circulation known to man, I am not someone to seek out cold weather destinations. Despite this, the cooler weather does allow for certain novelties, like coats and fires, not to mention ideal rock climbing weather ... and best of all, PORRIDGE!
