THE BIG MOVE// Yes we are moving into a new awesome location only a block away from our current location! Everything you could ever want in a yoga studio. I couldn’t be more grateful right now for all the support I have had from our students, from some amazing tradesmen that have gone above and beyond, and from our teachers. This is a place we can all be proud of that we have created together with a shared vision for peace, tranquility and wholeness. I’m proud as punch with what we have created. It’s perfect... I feel like my vision for @lightenupnq has blossomed to full bloom First class in the new studio with be Monday morning 6am 22 Jan. It will be a detox flow with Michael blades! I'M ASKING FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS// Its a new year and we are scheduling in some different themes to explore each week when we open up at the new studio. We would love to hear your suggestions and pop these into a plan for the year so we all know what is coming! Class themes can be anything from working towards a feature pose, to a particular emotion, mental outcome, or even just strengthening or opening a particular body part. Here are a few ideas to get you started, but give us your original ideas please! Release and let go Play Hip opening Reconnection Clarity Inversions Sensory awareness Cleansing fearful thoughts Standing in your power Flying High Strong Shoulders Exploring alignment Nourishing the heart
MY BATTLE WITH MY INNER JUDGE// You are allowed to enjoy yourself. You are allowed to stop. You are allowed to rest. You are allowed to enjoy your life. I have been whispering these words to myself a lot the last couple of weeks as I battle with guilt around not working ‘hard enough’, taking ‘too much’ time for self care and having it ‘easier’ than other people. For example, I feel this inner judge poke up and spoil it for me when I am taking an hour for my morning yoga rituals “umm, don't you know some people are already at work in jobs they hate. Is this really productive? You know other people would judge you badly if they knew you took all this time to care for yourself”. Then I answer myself back “I am allowed to rest. I don't accept the goals of productivity and self depreciation that the industrial world has laid out for me. My body is sacred. My soul has a purpose. I’m not here to keep the world happy. In fact I am here to rise above the constructs given to me by this culture and remember to be myself. To be, and live as a soul with a purpose. Bamm take that inner b*tch! This inner conversation reminded me of what so many people battle with when its time for svasana, that time at the end of the class when you do nothing. Yup, not even stretching. Many people have forgotten how to switch off, and we even don't think we are allowed to. We don't think we have the right to just be. We have been taught to not be okay with ourselves unless we are doing, unless we are working hard, billings hours and burning calories. I can tell you, you weren't put on this earth just to become an efficient unit of production or to sculpt your frame into magazine perfection. When you look back toward the end of your life you wont be thinking of these things at all. I am sharing this because I want to help illuminate the conditioning we have been given so that we can see it for what it is. I am sharing this because I want you to trust your soul to be in the driver’s seat of your life. Reconsider what the world expects of you and ask the question ‘what do a I chose for myself’.
