I often get asked what happens when a manifold fails on a marine engine. This video is the closest thing I could find. The results are much the same as a water cooled exhaust manifold failing. Water enters combustion chamber. Water doesn't compress. So something has to give. It's normally the poor connecting rod that gives up.
Most modern engines have a flushing port. They are designed to be the most effective way of flushing your outboard. They even work if your vessel lives in the water.
