Latest Report There have been good amounts of Squid taken both from boats and also land based all throughout Port Phillip Bay. Some of the spots which have provided better amounts would be Point Cook, Altona, Werribee and Queencliffe for boat based anglers, and Brighton, Portsea, St Leornards and Altona for landbased anglers. Bright coloured Jigs have been a standout. Staff member Jesse Rotin recently headed out off Point Cook and bagged with 10 squid in almost 10 casts on the Daiwa Emeraldas Nudes in size 3.0 with the standout colours being Gorgeous Iwashi and Glow Kumanomi/Nemo in roughly 4 metres of water. Another staff member Peter Soits has been heading down to the Brighton area and managed to get a few squid lanbased on the various colours from whites, glows to bright reds. Friday night Jason Taylor, snuck out for a quick fish chasing a few bream after work on the Patterson River. It proved to be a good decision braving the cold conditions, nailing a couple of nice sized Bream and dropping many more in the process. Jason mentioned that the Bream were favouring the 2inch Z-man grubz in Bloodworm colour fished slowly along the bottom and around the floating pontoons. The past few years have been outstanding on captures of Southern Bluefin in Victoria, not only for numbers but sheer size. Recently some fish over the 145 kg mark have been taken trolling lures in water depths of only 20 metres off Cape Nelson and Bridgewater in Portland. Port Fairy has been more Prolific for school sized Bluefin, but they have been spasmodic. Small Skirts in White and Blue colours, 4 inch in size, are best and trolled at around 6-8 knots over the 50 metre line straight south from Port Fairy.
