Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) is a material that has allowed us to save teeth that previously could not be saved. The unique properties of this material are, (i) superior sealing ability via interfacial growth of hydroxyapatite crystals, and, (ii) superior biocompatibility with potential for true regeneration (vs repair) of the adjacent periodontal structures. This case is a 6-month review of re-surgery where there was very limited space available to place a retrofilling. The MTA material has formed an effective apical seal despite the very small material thickness, allowing healing to occur.

We are very excited to advise that our interactive multidisciplinary discussion group is now an ADA(NSW) affiliated Special Interest Group! The focus of this group is to provide continuing education for members through clinical case discussions (also referred to as Grand Rounds in the context of medical education). As such, the group has been named Multidisciplinary Grand Rounds Study Group. We are now the second ADA-affiliated Special Interest Group in NSW along with the Sydney Women's Study Group. We would like to invite you and your colleagues to our next group meeting to be held on Wednesday 7th December 6:30pm at Club Burwood RSL, 96 Shaftsbury Road, Burwood. The theme for the evening is Risk Management. Our Guest Speaker is Dr Mark Sinclair, an experienced dentist, solicitor, and former ADA(NSW) President. There will be anecdotes and case examples from our multi-specialist panel of Drs Tuan Dao, Geoff Young & Peter Serb. There will also be case presentations from members, and members are invited to present their cases for discussion.
