Children often connect and communicate their world to us through drawing, painting, play or puppetry. This can feel safer to the child, furthermore it can tap into deeper, unconscious thoughts and feelings without them needing to find words. This workshop will explore whose role is it to make meaning and how we might think about and understand the child’s non-verbal expression. What is resistance in therapy? Is it good or bad? Can it be reframed as positive? Is resistance located in the client, the therapist or in the wider system? From Freud to De Shazer to the present day, resistance has been identified as a barrier to change. This 3 hour interactive workshop will: - • Explore the reasons for clients resistance • Identify behaviours that suggest the client is resistant – or that the therapist is resistant! • Help you identify which types of clients you may find most of a challenge • Help you understand why a client might not want to change • Assess a client’s willingness to change • Learn the difference between types of resistance e.g. outcome or process related, and implications for practice. The workshop will also provide an opportunity to explore practical strategies such as contracting, positive reframing, paradoxical interactions, the miracle question etc. and discuss how they might be useful with your clients.
