Attack on Complementary Medicine

There is a four corners program on in Australia tonight that is set to denigrate natural medicine. However, there is significant evidence that natural and complementary medicine works. Furthermore, Australian supplements are made to pharmaceutical grade and are under strict regulation. Seek advice only from an appropriately qualified natural medicine practitioner. https://healthcareinamerica.us/attack-on-complementary-medicine-7d96fc17f131#.k0pz1ns0k

Study finds cancer links to food additive in lollies, toothpaste, gum

A new animal study shows that titanium dioxide, a common food additive (E171), is absorbed by the intestine and caused precancerous changes to cells in 40% of animals studied, along with gut inflammation. Titanium dixoide is commonly used as a whitener in such foods as lollies, chewing gum and packet sauces. Titanium dixoide contains nano particles, tiny particles 1,000 times narrower than a human hair. Despite a lack of evidence regarding the safety of nanoparticles, the Food standards Authority allows nanoparticle use in foods in Australia and New Zealand. Avoid processed foods, especially those containing 'whiteners', or food additive E171, to avoid exposure to titanium dioxide and it's nanoparticles. http://www.smh.com.au/business/consumer-affairs/titanium-dioxide-food-additive-under-review-after-study-finds-cancer-links-20170127-gu03ao.html

Cookie Dough Fudge - The Spunky Coconut

This looks so yum! I'm going to have a play around this weekend with making this recipe dairy and nut free. I'm thinking I can use up (and disguise) the jar of sunflower seed butter that my fussy kids are refusing to eat. 🌻🌻http://www.thespunkycoconut.com/2015/09/cookie-dough-fudge/

I also love the bread from Marie Anita's on Gold Coast highway 👌 In saying that, we eat a lot less bread and a lot more veges these days. One loaf generally lasts the whole family for 1 week.

Imported rice in Australia: pesticides and chemicals found to be above safe standards

Another good reason to buy organic and Australian-grown where possible. Some of the rice tested contained residues of pesticides that are not permitted in Australia, or at levels above what is permitted in Australia. Pesticide residues can our endocrine and nervous systems, and probably also have effects we aren't yet aware of, as toxicology testing doesn't take into account the combined effects of the multitude of chemicals we are exposed to daily. http://www.sbs.com.au/yourlanguage/punjabi/en/article/2016/11/24/imported-rice-australia-pesticides-and-chemicals-found-be-above-safe-standards

Miss 7 and Mr 9 helped make these gingerbread biscuits and decorated them themselves. They're gluten and dairy free using the recipe in the comments (with a few tweaks) and turned out really gingery and delicious. I don't usually bother icing them, but it's a fun activity for kids and I has become one of our Christmas traditions. We tried making a healthier, maple-vanilla white chocolate icing, and while delicious, it wouldn't set at room temperature in this humid weather so we've gone for restrained use of the icing-sugar version, which set nicely. (The white chocolate version got turned into bars - nothing goes to waste here especially raw white chocolate!) Merry Christmas everybody 🎄🎄🎄

Lovely bunch of carrots from our garden. They look pretty good apart from a few tops poking above ground that got nibbled by our resident possum!

WEBINARJAM | Breaking Up With The Pill

The pill switches off our natural hormones and is linked with higher rates of depression, reduced libido and increased risk of blood clots and weight gain. Lara Briden is a really great hormone specialist naturopath so this should be a good webinar for those interested...
