NATURESCAPE PLAYGROUND The P&C along with the school are planning to install a naturescape playground in the wooded area between the library and Leach Hwy. The idea is to facilitate unstructured play, provide an extension of the learning areas and add facilities at Shelley Primary School. Nature play promotes health and enhances, cognitive, social and emotional development. It also builds resilience and creativity. Experience in nature as a child leads to environmental stewardship in later life. We have engaged a consulting company to provide an initial plan as below. We have full support from the school to proceed with this project. We are now at the stage where we need to start collecting materials that will allow construction of the main area and provide supporting play items. ZOO EXCURSION CANCELLED TODAY Given the weather forecast for today has not improved, we have made a decision to cancel the excursion to the Zoo and reschedule for a later date. School and classes will run as normal today. We apologise for any inconvenience and look forward to holding the excursion on a day when the weather is kinder and will allow the students to get the most out of their experience.

Dear Parents At this stage our Zoo excursion will go ahead tomorrow. If we are presented with thunderstorms and lightning in the morning and it is a threat to safety, then we will make a decision to cancel by 7.30am. This will be posted on FaceBook. If you do not see a post by 7.30am, please assume the excursion will take place. Some of the exhibits are indoors and we will take advantage of these as needed, but the great majority of your day will be spent outdoors. For this reason, we recommend that you dress/prepare for the weather as forecasted. Please ensure children are in warm clothing and have a raincoat and umbrella. If your child’s bag is not too heavy, pack an extra jumper. Zoonique sells budget souvenir rain-ponchos on site. On this occasion, we will allow students to bring money and purchase a poncho if you don’t feel they have adequate rain coverage. A bit of rain is always fun providing students are warm and dry and will not hinder their ability to move around to all exhibitions. See you all tomorrow.
