Early morning medevac for our volunteers! 🚨 This was a not a typical medevac, with the patient being transferred at sea - from a yacht at Tangalooma, across to our vessel.Redcliffe Leagues Clubs 2 was used for the activation. The task was done by a combined effort from our volunteers and the QAS staff who utilized the new equipment aboard "Redcliffe Leagues 2". As a footnote, today happened to be the skipper of Redcliffes Leagues 2's birthday. Happy birthday Col🎈 #qf3 #volunteers #guardiansofthebay

Approx 10pm, just as our volunteers were docking, they were told not to stop the engines as there had been another activation. A new crew of Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics were on their way to our base. 'Redcliffe Leagues 2' was used for all 3 activations. #qf3 #medevac #volunteers #guardiansofthebay

⭐️ 9th &10th of January - Weekend wrap up by Duty Officer Bart A beautiful weekend saw both the boat ramp car parks fill to capacity by 8am each day with the radio room’s inundation of vessels logging on from 4am. Saturday saw only two calls for assistance both originating from Moreton Island and both returned safely to Scarborough. Sunday took off like a rocket with our first call for assistance at the M8 coming in at 0600 and it never eased up for the remainder of the day. In addition to our rescue vessels “Redcliffe Leagues 2” & “RSL Redcliffe” attending the Greek festival a further 6 calls for assistance were received on Sunday. All were from the northern Moreton Island zone with home ports including, Newport Marina, Bribie Island, Clontarf and of course Scarborough. The weary crews locked up and went home at 2000. ➡️ Our crews involvement in the Greek Festival, was to assist the priest in blessing the crowd, and also to standby for safety. The priest threw a cross ✝ into the bay (from the back deck of our boat), then the young guys had to swim 🏊🏼from shore to retrieve it. The first one to get the cross, gets a small cross on chain and is blessed personally by the priest (we are there to assist any swimmers if need be). #qf3 #volunteers #guardiansofthebay

A stuck yacht! ⛵️⚓️ Today our volunteers assisted a 35' yacht which was hard aground on the Scarborough reef. Our rubber rib CG34 was dispatched to assist. Our volunteers were able to turn the yacht into the wind by attaching a tow line to the halyard to tilt it, while the owner powered himself into his final position. Our volunteers then took the yacht's anchor out, as far out as possible. This allowed the owner to remain in the shallow position between the 2 dangerous rock reefs off Scarborough. The owner requested one of our crew members come on board as a safety person during the evolution, which our skipper agreed. The yacht owner's ultimate plan was to run aground, in a sandy position to fix his propeller shaft. Our volunteers left the owner confident he would be able to get himself off at the next high tide. _____________________________ ⭐️ Stay tuned, to read how busy our volunteers weekend was tomorrow! ______________________________ #qf3 #volunteers #guardiansofthebay

4️⃣ very different activations yesterday! ⚓️🚤🚨📡 - epirb, medevac, tow assist & a stuck anchor. The first activation was an EPIRB being set off at 1am, causing a police activation, both 'RSL Redcliffe' & CG34 were dispatched, along with the Rescue 500 helicopter. Our volunteers were soon stood down when it was discovered the device was apparently set off on land. Near the original search area of Bramble bay. The second activation was a Medevac to Tangalooma with QAS paramedics. The third activation (and longest) took close to 4 hours of our volunteers time. A young couple were camping approx 2nm south of Tangalooma and decided to do a trip to Bulwer where their engine on their boat failed catastrophically. They managed to walk back to the resort, where they saw 'RSL Redcliffe' at the jetty, whilst on the (previously mentioned) medevac. The couple approached our skipper and asked for assistance. As they were not in any danger, the skipper advised that they would return and assist after completing the medevac. 'RSL Redcliffe' returned to the Tangalooma jetty to pick the couple up, then proceeded to the camp site with the couple on board for an investigation. It was then decided to pick the boat up first at Bulwer, tow it back to the camp site to pick up all their equipment, then tow the vessel back to Scarborough. The young couple were most appreciative for the assistance and very pleased to be back on dry land. The fourth (and final activation for the day) was a 30' timber vessel whose anchor was jammed on the Scarborough reefs. As the owner was one of our marine assist members, the skipper just wanted some bolt cutters to free himself, and this was organised. The volunteers attempted to free the anchor after the boat was released, but this was not successful and it was left on the reef. All in all, just another busy day for our ordinary everyday super volunteers! 😎 #qf3 #volunteers #guardiansofthebay
