Halotherapy, also known as salt therapy, is new to Australia, but has much older beginnings. In ancient Greece, Hippocrates recommended the inhalation of salt water steam for relief from respiratory problems and medieval monks took patients deep into salt caves for therapy, crushing stalactites to infuse the air with fine salt particles. The practice all but disappeared for centuries, but became popular first in Europe and then the United States about two decades ago.
Modern Halotherapy consists of a controlled environment where dry salt particles are infused into the atmosphere providing relief and relaxation in specifically designed therapy rooms. Those who have experienced Halotherapy usually report no ill effects, but on occasion the session may trigger slight coughing and the release of mucus. Sometimes, clients experience remarkable relief from symptoms in just a single session, while others are said to feel relief after a few halotherapy sessions.
Salt Life stress that whilst the therapy has anti-histamine, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, it is not advisable to use Halotherapy as a stand-alone treatment. We encourage patients to continue to use their regular medications, and use halotherapy as a form of complementary natural medicine. We are happy to consult with your medical professional to design a management and treatment plan specifically for you.

Dear Salt Life Members, Customers and friends, We wish to advise that the Salt Life Clinic will be closing on Wednesday 3rd August 2016. We started this journey some 4 years ago and in that time we have helped over 2000 clients, instructed and supported multiple new salt rooms and introduced many more to the wonders of natural salt products to improve your health and wellbeing. We do thank all our loyal and wonderful clients for your support and confidence in us however, as many of you are aware, we have had significant problems with air conditioning, and the property lease in general, at Bribie Island. We have at times, been unable to deliver a clinical service over the last month due to environmental issues and this is not acceptable to us as a professional Halotherapy clinic. We are a business and as such, we do need to consider financial matters as well as the wellbeing and health of you, our wonderful clients. So regrettably, we will no longer be able to provide Bribie Island with direct clinical facilities. ****A small insight about Halotherapy**** :) The word Halotherapy comes from the Greek word “halos” meaning salt. While the potential benefits and therapeutic nature of salt has been known for centuries, it was not until the early 1800’s that the underground salt mines throughout Eastern Europe were noted to benefit various respiratory conditions. As the workers were mining the salt in these climate-enriched chambers, dry salt particles would be inhaled into the respiratory system. The dry salt was discovered to be super absorbent, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. Soon people with various conditions were spending time in these salt mines. In the mid-1900’s the Russians began working on a technology to replicate the dry salt particles in the air and developed the first halogenerator, a device that grinds pure sodium chloride into precise micron sized particles and disperses the dry salt into a climate controlled room or chamber. This was the start of modern Halotherapy, which has been utilized for several decades throughout Eastern Europe and has begun to expand into many other countries including the United States and Canada. The small particle size is felt to be important to allow penetration deep into the lungs, since larger particles will simply be deposited in the nose, throat or large airways. The air in a halotherapy chamber is also filtered to remove contaminants and the temperature and humidity are well controlled. (Note- text from Florida MD magazine)
