✖️A message from EQUITANA’s Event Director regarding 2018 dates “The clash of dates between EQUITANA Melbourne and the Australian International 3 Day Event in 2018 is a very disappointing situation for all involved. We have been aware that the EQUITANA Melbourne 2018 dates clash with the Adelaide 3DE for some time and have tried unsuccessfully to rectify the issue. This is a terrible outcome for both events and not one of our design. Gillian Rolton and I have been discussing the dates of the two events for a number of years. We had been trying to ensure that this clash did not occur. 2018 was always looming as an issue because the dates for the Adelaide 3DE had been locked in for South Australia a few years ago, as had EQUITANA Melbourne. Gillian and I last spoke to each other in August 2017. We had commenced trying to review our Melbourne dates in July and we were in contact with each other because in her words, ‘Adelaide had changed dates previously to accommodate us and now it was EQUITANA’s turn’. I accepted that and we did try everything we could to change our dates by even a week. Unfortunately the Melbourne Showgrounds is a heavily booked venue, especially around November. The Showgrounds team tried very hard to accommodate us but with their commitments to other events and a heavy University Examination timetable it was impossible. I kept Gillian updated on progress and finally advised her on the 12th September that it was unfortunately not possible to move our dates. We did not speak then due to her illness. We acknowledge this is a bad outcome for the entire Australian equine industry and the timing of the clash of dates is most unfortunate. We are in the position of having nowhere to turn, and without a choice of venues. It seems difficult at the moment but we remain committed to working with the Adelaide 3DE organisers to find any solutions. We are certainly committed to ensure that the clash never happens again because it affects both events and divides the equine community. It is important both events thrive and prosper to represent the Australian Equine Industry. Both events have a job to do and we will do our part in working with the Adelaide 3DE team and the South Australian Government on future dates.” Kind regards, - Rod Lockwood, Event Director
