NAPLAN online - privacy collection notice Moving to NAPLAN online in 2018 The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) takes place each year for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 and has been an everyday part of the school calendar since 2008. NAPLAN helps parents, carers and educators to see if children are meeting important numeracy and literacy standards. From next year, students across Australia will gradually start to complete their NAPLAN tests online via a computer or another electronic device, such as a tablet, rather than using the traditional paper and pencil. Moving online brings many benefits and opportunities including providing better assessment, more precise results and faster turnaround of information. More information on NAPLAN online is available at http://www.nap.edu.au/naplan/parent-carer-support/. School readiness test A critical step in preparing for NAPLAN online is schools’ participation in a School Readiness Test. The readiness test is not another NAPLAN and it will not formally assess students who participate in the test. Any reports generated will be used for testing purposes only. Schools will undertake a minimum number of test sessions during the test to ensure they are ready for conducting NAPLAN online. Shortly after the school readiness test, a selection of schools and students will also be involved in undertaking test sessions to ensure the assessment platform will be ready for use in 2018. Collection of personal information Schools are required by law to collect personal information about you and your child, irrespective of whether your child participates in NAPLAN testing. In your child’s enrolment form, you gave consent for your school to provide this personal information to government departments and their agents for educational purposes. The purpose of this notice is to advise parents and carers of how your child’s personal information will be used for NAPLAN online in 2018, and as part of the School Readiness Test and NAPLAN platform readiness testing this year. Disclosure of personal information To enable online testing, the following personal information for every student in the year levels 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be uploaded by the Department for Education and Child Development (DECD), as the Test Administration Authority, to the NAPLAN Online Assessment Platform: • student name • local school student identifier • school name • gender • date of birth • country of birth • language background other than English • residential address • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status • parent’s occupation, education and language background. Students participating in NAPLAN online may also have personal information collected regarding disability adjustments to enable them to access and participate in NAPLAN testing. The personal information for students who are exempted, absent or withdrawn from NAPLAN online testing is collected and used for reporting purposes. Disclosure of personal information The Assessment Platform is managed by Education Services Australia (ESA). ESA is a not-for-profit company jointly owned by the Australian education ministers. ESA is subject to rigorous information privacy and data security obligations under its contract with DECD and is only permitted access to student personal information for the purposes of managing the Assessment Platform. Security and privacy are key requirements for the delivery of national testing. The online system has been designed to comply with relevant national data security policies and guidelines, as well as data encryption standards. ESA only has access to personal information from a relevant school, Test Administration authority or the Australian schools list for the primary purpose of fulfilling ESA’s role in supporting the operation of the Assessment Platform. For further information, the privacy policy for each agency may be found at their respective websites: • ESA: www.esa.edu.au/contact-us/privacy • DECD: www.decd.sa.gov.au/your-privacy. Access and correction To request access or correction to personal information collected for NAPLAN and held by schools please contact your school principal in the first instance. Complaints Complaints about a breach of privacy by a school should be directed in writing to the school principal. Speak with your school principal if you have any questions about this information.

22 June 2017 Dear Parent/Caregiver RE: Transition to NAPLAN online in 2018 While the move to online testing did not occur this year as planned, DECD recognises the benefits of NAPLAN online and remain committed, along with other states and territories, to transitioning all schools over the coming years. Le Fevre High School is one of up to 100 South Australian public schools who will transition to NAPLAN online testing next year. Ahead of this, we will participate in a national school readiness test this year. This will provide the primary opportunity for us to confirm that we are ready to conduct NAPLAN online in 2018. The school readiness test will be conducted in the last 2 weeks of August this year (weeks 5 and 6 of Term 3: Monday 21 August to Friday 1 September). We will be selecting 1 day within the 2 week window to conduct our School Readiness Test. Please find enclosed a privacy notice containing further information. The school readiness test is not another NAPLAN. It will not assess students who participate in the test, nor report student results. Identifiable student data will be loaded into the NAPLAN online platform for the purposes of the school readiness test and therefore the enclosed privacy notice is required to be distributed to parents. Kind regards Rob Shepherd Principal

Zeb Newchurch Year 8 : International Soccer experience… In the Term 1 holidays Zeb was very fortunate to be selected by Adelaide based Soccer Academia De Futebol by Cassio to travel to Europe to compete. Zeb along with a selection of other 2004 born players went to compete in the Mundiato, which is an International Soccer Tournament, which was held in Spain this year. Zeb says it was an amazing experience for him and his fellow players. He especially enjoyed seeing the different styles and types of soccer played by the different international teams. Another experience he really enjoyed was the opportunity was to witness top-level teams Bayern Munich from Germany and Getafe from Spain play. Zeb’s team had the opportunity to visit Camp Nou, which is Barcelona’s home ground. Zeb says that even though they did not win the overall tournament they made it to a quarter final and he noted that was a great achievement for their Adelaide based team. We congratulate him on this wonderful experience and with him well with his future Soccer endeavours!

Le Fevre High School principal Rob Shepherd gives a pep talk to Year 9 students ahead of NAPLAN tests MARTINA SIMOS, EDUCATION WRITER, The Advertiser May 9, 2017 9:00pm •NAPLAN tests start of 80,000 SA school students •Bugs prevent this year’s online NAPLAN tests in SA ON MONDAY, Le Fevre High School principal Rob Shepherd gave a pep talk to his Year 9 students, encouraging them to give the annual NAPLAN testing their “best shot”. He also explained while the results are just one set of data, they are useful in planning school literacy and numeracy programs. During yesterday’s first round of NAPLAN testing, the school had a high turnout of Year 9’s participating in the language conventions and writing tests. “We have around 100 students in Year 9 ...(and) had a very high attendance, probably one of the highest we ever had,’’ Mr Shepherd said. “We (also) had a lot of Negotiated Education Plan (Year 9) students come to school. “It doesn’t measure all of the things we want to measure — attitudinal development and growth as a whole person — but it focuses on individual skill set which they need to achieve the other life goals and dispositions for learning.”
