facebook.comDon't forget Valentines Day this week! Say it with Kokodamas and other goodies from the nursery. Better than chocolates (well sort of) come and be inspired to spoil your loved one!
Another one for the basket - Alocasia Yucatan Princess! Just stunning and a real head turner! This one is great indoors, on the patio or shaded part of your garden. It actually grows to a couple of metres and these are a metre tall already. Keep soil moist and fertilise regularly to promote lush growth. At just $25 - it's a real bargain!
The nursery is just loving this rain and all the plants are showing off!! It's amazing what a bit of rain will do. It will green up the grass and stimulate growth practically overnight! Great time to make the most of it and plant out your garden. Town water is fine but rain water contains niitrogen especially during a storm so that's why it is so good for your plants - even your indoor plants will enjoy a bit of rain water.
Plant of the week - Euphorbia Milii a real tough one. These are a dwarf variety that look great in rockeries, dry stone garden beds, pots on your balcony or in a sunny courtyard. What's more, they flower all year round. I have the red ones in my succulent garden and they just smile all the time! Great in the sun or part shade. These are $10.50 and a real steal for this variety.
More things to inspire you this week! Assorted Bonsai pots great for succulents too - only $5 each. Little pots for decoration, miniature gardens or Fairy Gardens - 10 for $5, and beautiful very best in town (String of Pearls - very full pots only $15. Open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday 8:30 to 4pm so come and have a browse and be surprised!!!
Back to the future again!! Some of the unforgettable things which were popular in the 70’s were shag pile carpet, Macrame, Bean Bags and Abba and tne popular indoor plant of the seventies was the Chinese Happy Plant, Dracaena fragrans ‘Massangeana’ also known as the Chinese Money Tree. A beautiful variegated plant that sprouts from a piece of apparently dead wood. These are bullet proof and many have survived from the seventies until today! I have some beauties ready for your Spotlight or KMart baskets or pots ranging from $7.50 to $35! incredible value.
Just hanging around and looking gorgeous! Devils Ivy and Monstera Obliqua. These showy plants are simply amazing and in this weather - growing like crazy. Another couple of easy care plants that trail all over the place. Look good in macrame hangers, perched on tables and shelves and hanging around the patio. Give one a go. Nice full baskets - $15 for Devils Ivy and $40 for Obliqua because they are difficult to come by.
Silver Plums take centre stage! Have a new shipment of these magnificent Alcanterea Bromeliads. If you need a classy, low maintenance and hardy show off piece then these are for you. Real crowd pleasers. The small medium size are nearly as big as their big brothers - at $35 a real bargain. The larger ones are $65 so come and see and be amazed!!
The Mazz & Co team would like to thank everyone for their continued support this year and wish everyone an amazing 2018 and yes - will be open Monday January 1st as usual so come for a drive and continue to be inspired!
Bonsai! Could this be your new hobby? This last year I have become an enthusiast and have met some interesting people along the way whilst attending master classes. It isn’t as daunting as I first thought – not that I know that much yet – it’s a long journey. The end result looks great and they look lovely on your patio table or anywhere that needs a bit of interest. Basically the watering of your bonsai must never be neglected. Apply water when the soil appears dry and never allow the soil to become completely dry. If your bonsai is receiving full sun, it may be necessary to water once a day. This schedule may vary with the size pot, type of soil and type of bonsai tree you own. One of the greatest attractions of a bonsai is the calming effect of simply trimming this miniature tree. The goal with pruning is to maintain its shape as it grows plus, cleaning up the top growth to ensure growth elsewhere on the plant. First, take a deep breath. Use bonsai clippers (not scissors!) to remove any dead branches. Then decide which branches to trim in order to maintain the desired design. Bonsai pruning is considered an art form, which is why this little tree makes such a great gift for your creative friends. The more you learn about the art, the more interesting the bonsai can be and many find the art of bonsai very meditative and great for stress-reduction. I have some easy care ones to start off with being Bouganvilleas – some in flower, ficus and Pachira Aquatica which is a sort of tropical bottle tree. These little ones are over 3 years old and are coming along quite nicely. At $25 each – believe it or not that is cheap.
Merry Christmas from Mazz and Huckles!! Thank you everyone for all your support this year and I have enjoyed being part of your gardening journey. I am planning some more surprising additions to the nursery next year to keep you inspired - watch out for that! Open Christmas Eve for your last minute shopping and re-open Wednesday 27th December for those avid gardeners and indoor plant enthusiasts. Have a wonderful break everyone although us gardeners never stop do we! Note: The new basket - only $20 from Spotlight - a kind customer bought it for me especially for pictures- I love it! (Ficus Elastica Burgundy $25).
Another one for The Basket! Ficus Elastica Burgundy - Natures Decore! This is another versatile and hardy indoor or patio plant that has wonderful architectural form. Great last minute Christmas gift only $25 in a 250mm pot and $15 in a 200mm pot.. Awesome!!
