Do you have back pain? Did you get an MRI? Did you know that: Over 1/3rd of people over 20 disc degeneration and nearly a 1/3rd will have a disc bulge or protrusion but NO pain? By the time you are 30, HALF of you will have disc degeneration and 40% will have a disc bulge and nearly a third will have a protrusion and NO pain Sending people for an XRay, MRI or CT scan should be to look for fractures, tumours or other "red flags" that are suspected, not to go looking for "pain producing structures". If your doctor doesn't want to send you for an MRI, there's a good reason why. Unfortunately people come in all the time with scans that have "scary findings" but don't correlate with their pain, their mechanism of injury or their other symptoms. Stay safe out there - both physically and financially!
