In 1982, Wentworth suffered extensive damage in a fire. Damage to the complex cost one and a quarter million dollars and major refurbishment works were carried out

Accommodation at the prison comprises of both single cells and some dormitory accommodation.
There is also a maternity section to accommodate mothers with babies up to age 18 months. Other facilities include a library, a gym and a visitors suit where the inmates can have private visits with their families.
