Lambada-Axé 3 week course, starts Nov 23rd

AFRO FUSION morning class

Start the day with this fun 1h workout incorporating Afrocentrix styles of dance, such as Axé Bahia, sega-maloya and Afrobelly! Yamina Soreya from Beleza Samba School has trained Afro-Brazilian dance intensively in Bahia and Guinean dance with master teacher Bebey Youla from the Ballet de Guinee. She also took workshops from Mohamed Bangourake, Lamine Sonko, Odai Affotey. She has learned maloya over the years with Ladoo, and other dancers in Reunion Island. When? Samba Percussion Classes with MIKELEZA on Beaufort Street, Northbridge!

5-WEEK Samba Drumming Course in RIO STYLE In this course, you will learn some percussion instruments typically used to play Samba Batucada during the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. You will experience being a part of a percussive ensemble with polyrhythmic patterns, melody, call and responses etc. This will be a kind of "crash course" for beginners, we will be passing through the basics very quickly and repeating them each week to get a familiarisation with the most essential fundamentals that are needed to take part in this fast carnival percussion style. We will look at the technique of particular instruments, essential to that style. You will be able to develop/improve skills in playing Caixa (a type of snare drum), Shaker & Tamboim. Taught by Michael Boase, founder of Beleza Samba School in Fremantle. Michael has a very precise way of teaching, stemming from over 10 years experience in playing/teaching samba in Australia. He is particularly appreciated for his patience and dedication. Complete beginners are welcome! When? THURSDAY NIGHTS at 6PM (90min class) Where? Saraswati Mahavidhyalaya, 263 Beaufort Street, Perth. 5-WEEK Samba Conditioning & Technique (LIVE DRUMS) In this course, you will learn to develop strength and isolation in your hips, gluteus, arms, wrists, shoulders and abdominal muscles. You will learn basic and more intermediate footwork of Rio Samba as well as different body rotations, breaks, fancy little steps & kicks etc. Expression & feeling will also be covered, such as working on having a relaxed smile, expressing joy ("alegria"), pride and elegance.
